Live animals—specifically frogs, fish and spiders—are displayed in unsecured, temporary, TINY plastic containers left on open retail shelves just like dry goods. This setup presents a critical welfare and liability issue. There is zero security. Any customer or child can easily pick up, shake, drop, or misplace these containers in random aisles without store staff noticing. Basic store maintenance is already neglected—for example, the cat grass on display was brown and completely dead. If routine plant care is being missed, it raises serious questions about animal oversight and daily wellness checks. These animals are living creatures, not self-serve retail items. Petco needs to implement secure, tamper-proof displays immediately and ensure basic husbandry standards are actually being met.
