  As the owner of a newly adopted 1-year-old shelter dog, I would not recommend this place and won't be bringing her back. The waiting room is very stressful for any dog that's reactive or just getting used to the world outside a shelter. There's just one shared area where dogs are right on top of each other, and there’s no warning when people/dogs walk through the door. They have one small "privacy" nook—basically a short, C-shaped half-wall with a seat inside that's completely open at the top and has no door. It sits right next to where everyone is walking by, so stressed dogs can still hear and smell everything, and it's super easy for them to wiggle right out of it. The whole appointment felt super rushed and impersonal. They knew I had just brought her home from the shelter, but they didn’t ask about my history with pets/offer any health advice. They didn't talk about her diet, and didn't mention anything about flea, tick, or heart worm prevention. To top it off, they didn't offer a heart worm test while we were there which I was unaware she needed at this time. So when I tried to order her preventative online through their system later, it got denied because she needed that test first—something they easily could have done during her visit. I was disappointed that they hadn’t made me aware of that, as they were holding her records in hand and knew that she needed one. Between the stressful waiting area and feeling like they just wanted to get us in and out, it wasn't a good experience. If you have a sensitive rescue pet, I'd skip this spot and find a clinic that is hopefully more calming/caring. Maybe the appointments are staggered or waiting rooms more thoughtful. If your dog is well adjusted and is not afraid of things or dogs or a veterinarian environment— this place is probably fine. But still not the best energy in the world.

  Low quality, high cost, private equity pet care. It should be against the law for these massive corporations and investors to do what they do to our pets and wallets. I was quoted over $4,000 dollars for my dog’s dental procedure that ended up being completed elsewhere for $1,200. Out of convenience, I brought him here post-surgery for his checkups where he was met by under-qualified “doctors” who made guesses, didn’t listen, didn’t look, and overprescribed medication just to put a few extra cents in the pockets of KKR executives. Never had a single confidence-inspiring visit at Mohawk Valley Animal hospital and urge all pet owners to continue searching for reputable independent practices. Use the free first visit and don’t go back!

  My pug has had diarrhea on and off all week. Last night it has a small amount of blood so I made the only appointment available this week and rushed over there. Got stuck in traffic and called the office, they told me as long as I was there by 2:15 I was within the grace period. I walk in at 2:15 with my sick dog and a sample and they tell me it’s a 10 minute grace period. I tell them someone on the phone just told me 15 and they all just looked at me. I asked if they could at least take the sample. They said no and couldn’t get me in for another 4 days. They don’t care about your sick animal here.

  I had been taking my dog to this clinic for quite some time, but my experience has left me very disappointed. Back in April, I spoke with the staff about concerns I had regarding my pet’s care. There were times when procedures or treatments were done without first consulting me, and I made it clear that I expected better communication and transparency. I also previously brought another dog to this clinic for most of her life. Unfortunately, she was never diagnosed with a heart condition that she ultimately died from. While I understand that not every condition is easy to detect, that experience, combined with my more recent concerns, made me question the level of care and communication I was receiving. Today, I needed a last-minute appointment, and instead of being met with compassion, the manager was rude and dismissive. I was told that because I had expressed concerns and “didn’t trust them” with my pet’s care, I should take my pet somewhere else. Rather than addressing my concerns professionally or trying to help during a time of need, I felt dismissed as a longtime client. Good communication, empathy, and respect are essential in veterinary care, especially when families are trusting someone with their beloved pets. Unfortunately, my experience has made me feel that this clinic no longer values those qualities.

  We had a great experience taking our cat to her first visit at Mohawk for a first-time wellness exam! I was able to book online which was seamless, and we were seen for our appointment early. The staff was super friendly with our cat and we were able to ask any questions we had while feeling comfortable. Definitely the best vet in the area!
