  Found a dead betta fish in the cup. I really think pet stores that sell betta fish need to use actual fish tanks for them. It’s unbelievably sad to see them in a cup and then to see a dead one just at the bottom? Made my heart shatter. I love shopping at petco for my dog but i just don’t appreciate knowing that petco corporate wants betta fish to be in those cups.

  Beca, the La Mesa store manager, in no way attempted to help to remedy a flaw in Petco’s system. She herself offered to give me a refund for my transaction. However, the Petco online system did not work. Even though she offered to give a refund, she told me to call customer service for help, saying they deal with issues at the store level. I told her I was at ‘store level’. She couldn’t have cared less as demonstrated by her words and her completely indifferent attitude…not even a simple apology. As the manager, she is also responsible for the disheveled appearance of the store: very dirty, disorganized, sparse inventory on the shelves, trash on cash register counters, etc. Nothing makes me want to give this Petco store any business. I may just decide to go to Pet Smart for any future pet supplies…they may care more for their customers. If I could give a zero star rating, I would!

  I've shopped at this specific store for more than 20 years. I've watched the gradual decline in the upkeep of the store over the past few years. Very unkempt, floors not clean. That's the physical appearance. The staff on my last visits left a lot to be desired, but it seems more of a reflection on corporate values and training. Three employees, one who claimed to be the shift manager, could not provide answers and solutions regarding a gift card that was being purchased. Specifically, a means to let the recipient know the value of the card. The employees tried to assure me everything was fine, but when they ran the just purchased gift card it registered as rejected/decline. One employee said it was because the Petco system is really bad. The manager provided a phone number and suggested I call them for assistance because they could generate a refund. Today, one day later, I went to a different Petco, asked them to check the balance and it still registered rejected/declined. Thankfully that employee stuck with it, knew what he was doing and got the card funded. I wouldn't recommend the La Mesa store.
