My experience with Banfield has been unacceptable. The ONLY reason I enrolled in their nearly $80/month Wellness Plan was because I specifically confirmed I could have my puppy’s care performed in-room with me present.
On August, 29, I brought my 11-week-old puppy to Banfield Aliso Viejo for his first round of the DAPP vaccine. I watched the vet attempt the injection, but the vaccine spilled entirely onto the floor. He said he was “sure he got some of that” and attempted another 1/2 dose. The same thing happened AGAIN. After two failed attempts, they took my puppy to the back despite my request for in-room care and later told me a half dose had been successfully administered. I left not knowing how much vaccine my puppy actually received, if any at all.
I complained to Corporate on September 8. Six days later, local manager Bianca called and apologized stating these things happen, rarely but they happen, and she was sure the puppy received some of the vaccine. What does that even mean? "Some of the vaccine", how much exactly? Because I am not confident anything was administered in the back, as I had watched 2 failed attempts. I then brought up the records, because the records showed a completed vaccine
She suggested Dr Singer wrote in the notes the amount he received, she said if I were using the Banfield’s app, that does not display records accurately. I explained I was using their desktop website. She then pulled up the record herself and confirmed I was right: there were no notes documenting what happened in the back, the failed administrations or how much was actually (supposedly) given in the back, outside of my presence.
This is an 11-week-old puppy starting his required vaccination series. Accurate records determine what he needs next and when he can safely be exposed to public environments. According to Dr Singer PARVO is a real risk and has 99% fatality rate so until my puppy was fully protected he would not be able to go out in public, so this is an issue. The failed attempt is an issue, the half dosage (if administered at all) is also an issue, the inaccurate record is an issue.
I told Bianca I had no confidence in Banfield, would not return, and wanted the plan cancelled. She said she would contact Corporate. She NEVER called back. Banfield charged me AGAIN three days later.
Today, my puppy developed signs of a possible ear infection. Since I’m still being charged, I booked an in-room appointment at another Banfield through their website. That hospital called and said the appointment wasn’t actually available. I called multiple locations and have now told me their online scheduling system has not worked properly for some time and that I need to call individual hospitals for actual availability, furthermore no in-room visits are available anywhere same day. Best part is as I was calling multiple locations at 8 am (when they all open) they all had their after hours message, no their staff apparently don't turn on phones till nearly an hour after opening.
Nothing about this has been reliable: the vaccine administration, medical documentation, app, scheduling system, management follow-up, or my request to stop being charged for a service Banfield has FAILED to provide (on every level).
I have filed a BBB complaint and am submitting the veterinary-care and record keeping concerns to the California Veterinary Medical Board. If Banfield continues charging me without resolving my cancellation request, I will pursue available legal remedies.
This could have been resolved with transparency, accurate records and appropriate management follow-up. Instead, Banfield continues charging me nearly $80/month, again for a service they ARE FAILING TO PROVIDE AT EVERY LEVEL.
Pet owners beware, the Banfield Wellness Plan along with the care is an absolute SCAM. Read the reviews, they are all horrendous, worst ratings on every site when comparing to other vet hospitals.
