I brought my dog to this veterinarian as an emergency because there was a possibility that she had ingested a sock, which could potentially cause a life-threatening intestinal blockage.
Unfortunately, the veterinarian refused to examine or treat my dog because my son, who is also an owner, was not present and could not be reached immediately. My son was traveling in Asia with a 16-hour time difference, and I did not feel it was reasonable to wake him or interrupt his vacation simply to give permission for an initial evaluation or X-ray.
I was not refusing treatment or surgery. If an X-ray had shown a blockage or if surgery had been necessary, I absolutely would have contacted my son and dealt with the situation immediately. I simply wanted my dog evaluated and the potentially life-threatening problem ruled out.
I have never encountered a veterinarian who would refuse to even evaluate an animal in a potential emergency because another owner isn’t physically present or available by phone.
In an emergency, I believe the animal’s immediate health and safety should come first. I found this experience extremely disappointing and, in my opinion, unnecessarily put my dog’s health at risk.
I cannot recommend this veterinarian based on this experience. An emergency situation should have been treated with urgency and compassion rather than turned away over an issue of ownership authorization.

I am so grateful for this place. I had been having what I thought were behavioral issues with my cat. I reached out to a local cat behavioralist who recommended I see Dr. Sara Ford before she would even come do a home assessment.
She suspected that my cat's issues were neurological and not behavioral. So I made an appointment to see Dr. Ford for as soon as possible. My cat's symptoms got to a point where I could no longer wait and the team was able to get me in even earlier on a cancellation basis which was just amazing. Dr. Ford listened to me ramble on about all the little details of what has been going on. She diagnosed my kitty with actually having rare little seizures causing extreme aggression and even attacking his own tail causing severe bleeding. Things had gotten so bad at home I wondered if my cat would ever be himself again. I had almost lost hope. But now he is doing much better and we have a very good plan going forward for medication to manage his condition. Dr. Ford is the real deal! Top of the line amazing and I guarantee you will not regret going to see her.
I will be forever grateful to her and the entire staff at Phoenix Veterinary Referral. Also, if you ever need an emergency vet, this is the place to go. They don't gouge on price like all the other places around town. They are extremely honest, helpful, and caring.

Excellent service. We took our elderly dog here last week and he was given very prompt care. We opted to make him comfortable with medications given his age and declined further testing and the veterinarian was supportive and understanding. She offered us all available options but also was no trying to push us into something we didn’t want. Three days later we ended up returning to put him to sleep and although he ended up passing away in the car as we pulled in, the staff were incredibly compassionate as they took our dog out of the car for us and let us sit in a room with him for one last time even though we didn’t technically need any care at that point. They took care of the cremation and sent us a very sincere sympathy card in the mail. We will absolutely utilize and recommend this practice for any urgent needs in the future.

My husband and I came in today to, sadly, put down our 16 year old cat, Mia. We were both sobbing in tears the entire time and the staff was incredibly helpful and compassionate to our needs. This is a very clean facility and we were able to sit in a large room with our baby to spend some last moments with her.

i called for emergency because my dog was showing stroke symptoms & needed help over the phone something to help meanwhile to save my dogs life , and the lady that answered was careless and just cold. She didn't even let me finish my sentence when i was currently in distress, I never leave bad reviews but in time when you really need an answer and you're "a hospital clinic for pets" but u have someone like that answer it makes me question the lack of empathy for workers in the industry. Please do better and actually like your job.
