- BDbrian dembyAug 11, 20264.0Ok so this more of a public service announcement than a complaint although I do have a complaint. About a month ago I took my dog to the vet for a routine check up and while I was there I was given a paper that talked about how fresh food can cause bladder stones in small breed dogs like I have and gave a list of foods to switch to so I chose Purina one. We weaned him off the fresh pet for four days and then the Purina and about four days later projectile vomit,bloody stool,body warm to the touch,no energy and constant panting. Took him back and he has pancreatitis from the fat content in the food he's eating that was recommended by the vet. It had 8% fat and the fresh pet that we were giving him had 7% fat but he never had a problem.They should have known that high fat content can cause pancreatitis in small breeds because I googled (what dog breeds develop pancreatitis from eating food high in fat) and the answer was small breed dogs.The treatment is about $1000.00 and three rounds of injections. The vet gave us a prescription for food but I found some with a really low fat content around 2.5 % but I really want to make food for him I just need to find the right blend so he gets the nutrients he needs. Do your research before changing your dog's food or get a second opinion.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.

• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
