I scheduled my appointment for my 2 dogs on Monday the 17th for the following day Tuesday the 18th.
I selected in room visit because I had a few concerns I wanted to discuss with the vet. A couple hours after I scheduled it, they called to let me know they don’t do in room visits or can go to another location, even though online it showed both types of visits (drop off and in room). Then I asked when/if they can do an in room visit and she said “oh well we actually have them 7 days a week”. Which was a little contradicting after she said they don’t do in room and told me to go to another location.
So then I asked when can they see us in room and they rescheduled me for Thursday the 20th, having to shuffle my schedule around. Then they called me on Wednesday the 19th asking to reschedule the appointment for the following week as their doctor called out for the remaining week.
I haven’t been to this specific location, but have been a Banfield client for over 6 years and your experience starts from the beginning and I could tell it was going well already. Other locations have been great and quick to schedule me with another doctor or move the appointment to later the same day, not the next week.
The girls that called to reschedule are quick to meet you with a “oh that sucks, we can’t fix the problem we caused” attitude. I can’t say for certain that they’ll honor their appointments with them rescheduling me twice in less than 2 days.

I’ve been bringing my cat and dog to this Banfield location for over 3 years, and until this visit I’ve always had positive experiences. That’s why what happened on July 12 was so disappointing.
My husband dropped off our cat at 7:00 a.m. for what we were told would be a simple check-up. Tamara at the front desk told him that because it was an easy appointment, our cat should be ready to be picked up by the time I finished at the gym. We live about 30 minutes from the clinic, so that estimate was helpful. I also understand that the veterinarian doesn’t arrive until 8:00 a.m., so I wasn’t expecting him to be seen immediately.
At 10:15 a.m., I called for an update and was told my cat still hadn’t been seen. Tamara said she would check and call me back. By 11:00 a.m., I still hadn’t received a callback, so I called again. Instead of simply providing an update, Tamara had a very unpleasant attitude. She explained that a surgery had taken longer than expected, which I completely understand—delays happen. My frustration was never about the delay itself; it was about the lack of communication.
The conversation became upsetting when Tamara told me, “You can pick up your cat.” I responded by asking why I would pick him up if he hadn’t even been examined by the veterinarian. She then said, “I’m not going to keep your cat hostage.” That comment was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. All I had asked for was an update on my pet.
She eventually told me I could pick him up in about 30 minutes. When I arrived, I asked for her name and the name of her supervisor because I wanted to address how I had been treated. As I tried to explain why I felt her comments were inappropriate, she raised her voice and said, “I’m not going to argue with you.” She then put her hand up toward me in a dismissive “talk to the hand” gesture, effectively shutting down the conversation instead of listening to my concerns. That level of disrespect was incredibly disappointing and unprofessional.
I understand being short-staffed and that unexpected surgeries can throw off the day’s schedule. I also know working the front desk can be stressful. However, none of that excuses speaking to clients this way. A simple update and a little empathy would have gone a long way.
It’s especially unfortunate because Tamara has always been friendly and welcoming during our previous visits. That’s what made this interaction so surprising and disappointing. I sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously so no other client has a similar experience.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
