I left this appointment feeling extremely disappointed and discouraged. I brought my 14-year-old Shih Tzu to the Vetco Total Care clinic after he developed a severe skin infection in the exact area that had been shaved during a recent Petco grooming appointment. The night before, we had already rushed him to an emergency veterinarian, where he underwent blood work, an exam, and started antibiotics and other medications due to significant inflammation and infection. Petco referred us to the Vetco clinic for a second opinion. Additional blood work again showed inflammation, and while the veterinarian discussed possible causes, I left feeling like there was little willingness to objectively consider whether the grooming could have contributed to my dog’s condition. What was most upsetting, however, was the complete lack of compassion. At no point during our visit did anyone ask how my dog was doing. No one asked if he was eating, drinking, acting normally, or if his condition had improved since the emergency visit the night before. As a pet owner with a sick senior dog, those are the types of questions I expected from a veterinary team. Instead, the entire visit felt rushed, dismissive, and lacking genuine concern for my dog’s health and well-being. I understand that veterinarians cannot assign blame without evidence, and I wasn’t expecting them to. I simply expected my concerns to be heard and for my dog to be treated with empathy and care. Instead, I left feeling like his condition was minimized rather than taken seriously. To make matters even more disappointing, I have received absolutely no follow-up from the Vetco clinic or the Petco grooming department to check on my dog after everything that happened. No phone call, no email, no message asking if he was recovering or if he needed additional care. After multiple veterinary visits, blood work, medications, and the emotional stress of worrying about my 14-year-old dog, that lack of follow-up speaks volumes. Veterinary medicine is about more than diagnosing and prescribing medication. It’s also about compassion, communication, and advocating for the animals entrusted to your care. Unfortunately, that was not the experience I had. I sincerely hope Petco and Vetco use this experience as an opportunity to improve how they care for both their patients and the families who trust them.

Had an issue with scheduling the appointment and they were able to work with me. Had they not, this would’ve been a VERY frustrating day after having wrangled a cat, who then proceeded to pee all over himself. Which they cleaned up. I can’t say enough good about this experience. The bill was reasonable too. They nailed it.

We used to take our dogs here. Dr. Carbury, Dr. Arnold, and Dr. Bynum were all amazing. However, we took our dog there and got Dr. Runge and she was beyond rude. Our dog is overweight and we have addressed that, we took her in for skin issues. She didn’t listen to our concerns very well. She came back and shamed us for her weight and anxiety stating we needed a professional trainer. She was beyond rude and did not look for any correlation in symptoms. Then she said her skin problem was due to fleas, which she did not have. We followed her treatment plan and it never worked. Finally we took our dog to a new veterinary clinic and their treatment plan worked perfectly. They found she has Hypothyroidism which was the cause of her skin problems and weight gain. We were heavily shamed by Dr. Runge and will NEVER take any of our pets back here.
