I brought my dog in for a scheduled vaccine appointment and left disappointed.
The front desk did not acknowledge me upon arrival, and there were noticeable cleanliness issues -- visible urine near the front area, a dirty scale, and pet hair on the exam table.
After waiting about 20 minutes, my dog was taken to the back for the exam. I never saw or spoke to the vet at any point during the visit. An ear cleaning was recommended, but I was told it would take a couple of hours due to consent verification and other appointments. For a routine visit, this felt excessive and poorly communicated.
I chose to leave and go elsewhere. I do appreciate that they did not charge the exam fee. However, overall the experience felt transactional rather than professional. I hope the clinic improves cleanliness, communication, and client interaction standards.

The man working the desk was very short and rude with me. I had a question regarding a glucose monitor for my cat. I am trying to find a vital health care device for my diabetic cat as soon as possible. I was not shown compassion. Do not bring your baby to this corporate entity, they won’t care for them as an independent vet would.

I should have trusted the reviews, but I was desperate to get my dog, Jonah, seen for his itchy skin infection before the weekend. I booked Jonah’s in-person appointment for Friday. When Friday morning rolled around, I received a call saying that the visit would be a “drop-off” visit. Having no other option, I decided to proceed with this “drop-off” visit. After I dropped Jonah off, I waited for 2 hours with no update. I decided to call and they said that the vet hadn't seen Jonah and that there were several dogs in front of him. I felt bad leaving Jonah there for such a long time, probably locked up in a kennel. I immediately went to pick him up and decided it was best to take him to his normal vet after the weekend. I will never return and would highly recommend avoiding this clinic.

My experience echoes Marlene's to a T. The staff here have zero answers and lots of attitude. I have experienced such great care in both Portland and San Diego locations. This place was miserable, unhelpful, uncaring and only focused on generating revenue for themselves if my experience is any indicator.
Frequently Asked Questions About Banfield Pet Hospital
Does Banfield provide emergency care services?
No, but you can call us during hospital hours for urgent care advice. Depending on the situation, we can help provide a referral for urgent care, specialty providers, or to an emergency hospital. During non-hospital hours, please contact your local emergency hospital.
Can I get veterinary care online?
To help pets and their people stay healthy, Banfield clients who have Optimum Wellness Plans® can get remote general pet care advice and triage support directly from a veterinarian 24/7 through Vet Chat™ on the Banfield app.
What preventive pet health care services does Banfield offer?
We believe that preventive care is the most effective way to keep your pet healthy throughout all stages of life. Our pet hospitals offer many preventive care treatments, including:
• Vaccinations
• Dental Care
• Parasite Control
• Nutritional Counseling
• Behavioral Counseling
• Comprehensive Examinations
What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
