Hello, my name is Vance, and my family and I just wanted to share what an incredible experience we had with Grant at Petco.
Over the past month, we came in a couple of times knowing absolutely nothing about snakes. Our son is 8 and our daughter is 10, and they really wanted a ball python. When we first walked in, we were honestly just entertaining the idea. We had no real plan to actually buy one.
Both times we came in, Grant was the one who helped us, and he was phenomenal. He was patient, thorough, and extremely knowledgeable. He took the time to explain everything we needed to know about ball pythons, what it takes to properly care for them, what kind of setup they need, and what to expect as owners. He didn’t rush us once. Between the two visits, he probably spent two to two and a half hours answering our questions and walking us through every detail.
What really stood out was how well he connected with our kids. At 8 and 10 years old, they were excited walking in, but Grant truly took that excitement to another level. He was able to break everything down in a way they could fully understand, not just the fun parts, but the responsibility that comes with owning a snake. He talked them through everything from how to properly set up the tank, to feeding schedules, to handling, to what long-term care looks like 20 to 25 years down the road. He made sure they understood that this isn’t just a short-term commitment, and somehow he did it in a way that made them even more excited while also taking it seriously.
He didn’t just talk to us as parents. He intentionally included our son and daughter in every part of the conversation and made them feel involved and responsible. Because of the time and care he put into educating all of us, we felt confident making the decision to bring a snake home and confident that our kids truly understood what it takes to care for it properly.
He also went above and beyond by letting us know about additional things we would need outside of what we were purchasing that day. It never felt like a sales pitch. It felt like he genuinely cared about the well being of the animal and about us being fully prepared.
We honestly do not leave reviews very often, but Grant absolutely deserves one. He made this such a positive and memorable experience for our family. Because of him, we will absolutely be coming back to Petco for our dog food and anything else we need for our pets. That kind of customer service builds loyalty.
If you are ever at Petco and need help with anything, especially reptiles, Grant is the person you want to talk to. You have a truly outstanding employee, and we are very grateful for the time and effort he gave our family.

I went for my pet grooming today but I was totally disappointed ☹️ with the groomer Alexis who was so rude and didn’t gave us a chance to speak. We want our pet hair to be short but they literally trimmed it very badly. Also, for 15 min she complained about our pet and didn’t gave a chance to speak. I am totally disappointed with petco.

Went to get some feeders for my own critters and decided to browse the reptile area. I immediately noticed a baby corn snake with enough mites to notice and it was visibly underweight. I could see its spine. That’s definitely not a single missed meal. It was also housed with another corn snake so it probably had mites as well. I did let an employee know as she was checking on the pythons, but when she took out the corn snake, she placed it in the same hand she was holding the python. That definitely could’ve ended poorly and if that python didn’t have mites, it does now. She blamed the mites on the vendor they get the snakes from. Do the animals not get evaluated and quarantined for a few days before being placed for purchase? If you are aware they come to the store with mites, why not quarantine and treat? Instead, you are allowing the public to buy these animals then they have to pay more money to treat the mites if they notice it. I also noticed it was most likely feeding day because they had like 20+ large crickets in with a young skink. That is unsafe practice as the crickets can bite and that skink was not eating. It was asleep and vulnerable. Cricket bites can lead to infection and necrotic scales/tissue when left untreated.
