B is a fantastic groomer. He handled Happi as if she were his own. He is kind and capable and I look forward to being his customer for years to come!

As a devoted and deeply concerned dog owner, I am absolutely appalled by the level of service I received today at the Petco located at Center of the Hills in Austin. This experience was not only unacceptable — it was genuinely upsetting and left me shaken. From the very beginning, I sensed red flags. When booking my husky’s grooming appointment, I honestly indicated that he can be a bit anxious during baths — something any experienced groomer should be familiar with, especially when dealing with high-energy breeds like huskies. This is not uncommon. It’s literally part of the breed’s temperament, and anyone who works with dogs professionally should understand that. Shortly after confirming the appointment, I received a call saying they wouldn’t be able to take my dog because there was another anxious dog already scheduled during that time. Instead of working with me on a realistic solution, I was pushed toward a “VIP” upgrade for an extra $20 just to keep the appointment I already booked — which felt more like an upsell than an accommodation. When I arrived — on time — there were no groomers present to check in my dog. Eventually, a woman named Amanda came out from the back. From the moment she approached, I had a bad feeling. She did not present herself professionally and frankly didn’t give the impression that she should be handling any animals, let alone my anxious husky. To make matters worse, as another dog (a German Shepherd) was howling in the background, she started speaking negatively about it — which was incredibly disturbing. That’s not how someone who truly cares for animals talks. I filled out paperwork, and barely an hour later, I got a call that my dog was ready for pickup. That alone was alarming. My husky usually takes 2–3 hours for a full grooming — and this was supposedly a “VIP” session? When we arrived, the cashier handed me the payment form and asked if I’d like to leave a tip before we’d even seen our dog. That moment said it all. Even she seemed to know something wasn’t right. When my dog came out, I was devastated. He looked completely unkempt — fur matted, clearly not brushed, and genuinely worse than when I dropped him off. It was heartbreaking. I immediately asked to speak to a manager. Brian, the manager on duty, listened to my concerns. When confronted, Amanda first lied and said she brushed him, then admitted in front of both of us that she hadn’t even tried. Despite this admission and the subpar service, I was only given a partial discount. Adding insult to injury, I later learned that Petco had placed a nationwide ban on my dog for all grooming services — without a valid reason. Discrimination based on breed or temperament? That’s exactly what it felt like. I reached out to another Petco location — the one on 41st Street in Austin, where my dog has been groomed before without issue — and the difference in care was night and day. The kind woman I spoke with was shocked by what happened. She made space in her schedule just to help us, even though they were fully booked. After grooming my dog, she reassured me that his behavior absolutely did not warrant any kind of national ban. Maybe a store ban if there was a specific incident (which there wasn’t), but banning a well-meaning, anxious husky from every Petco in the country? That’s outrageous. She went above and beyond — treated my dog with compassion, gave him the care he deserved, and even worked to have the unfair ban lifted. I tipped her $80 because she showed what real care looks like. If you want someone who actually cares about animals, go to the 41st Street location. That team deserves recognition. But as for Amanda at the Center of the Hills Petco — she has no business working in animal care. Her lack of professionalism, empathy, and honesty is not only disappointing — it’s dangerous. Petco should seriously reevaluate how someone like her was ever put in charge of grooming people’s beloved pets. My dog is not just a pet — he’s family. And this experience was not just poor customer service. It was traumatizing.

Do not recommend using self serve dog wash nothing works correctly was told the blow dryers do work before purchasing bath and found out after bathing my dog that they in fact do not. The high setting barely pushes out any air when I asked if there was a higher setting the employee told me no they don’t really work and I’d just have to towel dry. The whole point of bathing at a facility is to be able to use dog grooming equipment. After asking for the manager Kyle it took him 15 mins to come out of his office just to argue with me about how there supposed to tell people before they bathe there that the equipment pretty much sucks instead of closing it down and fixing it. He was unapologetic and condescending save your money and time go elsewhere.
