I am a hobbyist of the aquarium trade for 25 years. I have patroned PETCO numerous times for supplies over the years. Upon a recent visit I noticed that the care level of the animals at this store, as well as the one in Hixson, TN, both managed by "Mel" (we can't seem to get a last name) are keeping their animals below humane standards. Most recently, upon purchasing two crustaceans from the saltwater department ($30 each), I returned home and immediately tested the water in the bag with a calibrated digital refractometer. The resulting salinity was 1.021, which is dangerously low for such a sensitive animal, not to mention all the corals also being kept in that tank with the crustaceans. It is in the literature that invertebrates and corals should be kept at a 1.023-1.026. Shrimps are also extremely sensitive to condition swings, which is why we acclimated over a course of two hours. We have not had any other animal introduced into this specific tank, to die within 24 hours. One shrimp died in the bag, the other about 20 hours later, and its body was contracted, which is a sign of severe osmotic change (dehydration). Also of note, the day I bought the shrimps I met a young employee who was changing the tank water, who said that he had just learned to do this, and was without any supervision. He checked the salinity of the water to be added with his refractometer one time without calibrating it, did not test temperature, and did not test the tank water when he was finished. When I returned to the store the next day, the fish in the saltwater tower had visibly been effected. Their color was patchy and dull, and they were breathing heavily at the bottom of the tank. My wife and I have also noticed on every occasion of visiting both of these stores over the last eight years, that their baby Bearded Dragons (which we have one) are kept at 60% humidity, when it is well known that baby bearded's require even lower humidity than adults, around 20%. You can tell looking at the animals that they are distressed. All in all, I have come to a point where it no longer feels right to continue patronizing this business, and not only that, but I feel that it is not right for them to continue operating in this way, for the sake of the animals if nothing else. -> This is a reiteration of the complaint we filed with PETA.

If I could give a zero I would!!! We go in go to fish tanks, 2 with dead fish in them. Let the lady at front know nicely and I know it happens that’s not my issue. My issue is I asked for help waited, I wait until there’s no customers ask lady at front is there someone for the fish and she points, I turn around me and my daughter start walking toward him to wait we see he is with another customer and he gets rude and looks at us like we are a problem. He has a tattoo on his eye I didn’t get a name. So I ask the lady at the front if there’s a corporate number or something she states she’s an ASM and will be with me in a moment and I stated I asked for your help several minutes ago there’s nothing you can do for me. We won’t be back to this location I stopped here it’s closer than hwy 153 to my home. Now we are at competitor and then probably will have to drive 30 mins out of my way to the other location if I can’t find what I need here! Your employees have poor customer service I’d fix that! Especially for an ASM. I deal with public daily and am a store manager my employees will never treat a customer as your people did today!!!

The store manager and the staff at the grooming salon are very unprofessional and lack Customer service training. My dog has been there twice and every time I’ve booked online there’s never a clause that states if your Dog is on trazodone he cannot be serviced. So in 2024 I brought my dog in and I explained that he was on trazodone because of anxiety and because he’s hyper. My dog is not aggressive has never attacked anyone. After I brought him into a stressful situation, they explained that he cannot be serviced because he’s on trazodone. I then complain because no one ever told me when I booked the appointment he could not be on trazodone. Then to employees inside the store laughed while I complained about the situation I didn’t ask to speak with the manager in the grooming department, and then they lied and stated that they did not laugh. The store manager believed them and was very rude to me about the situation. Since then, I have been grooming my Dog at a self grooming location, but decided I wanted to take him to Petco today. When I tried to book online, it stated that because of the last appointment I would need to call the store. When I called the store, the new manager explained that I had been referred out. No one ever told me that I have been referred out until today. I’m still trying to figure out where I was referred to. The grooming manager, then explain that the old grooming manager referred us out because Of the situation. So I don’t think it was right that I was referred out just because I was not notified about the trazodone policy and because I complain about the Employees. I then asked to speak with the store manager because the grooming manager did not help me. The store manager was very passive, aggressive and kept Cutting me off. She called me by somebody else’s name and clearly did not even read my account or the notes on the account and until after The whole conversation. The store manager is Gail. I asked for corporate’s number and she refused to give it to me. Then when I asked for the customer service number, she explained that I could get it off The website. She may presumptions about my dog stating that since he was on transit on the first time that he would need the medication For future visits, which is not the case. My dog is prescribed trazodone PRN. She kept stating that My dog hadn’t been serviced anywhere within a year and it probably wouldn’t be a good fit. I have been bringing my dog out around other dogs And to a self grooming salon around other dogs. He has been to the vet and he has been in boarding around other dogs. The experience with Petco is unacceptable. I still would like to speak with someone about my encounters, but I will never bring my dog back to Petco or buy anything from petco.
