I can’t say enough good things about this facility. After a whirlwind weekend from finding out how sick my sweet cat was to having to make the humane decision to end his suffering, Dr. Phillips (and the entire staff we dealt with) was phenomenal. He was straightforward from the beginning, but compassionate. I understood what we were possibly facing had my cat been able to recover, but the next morning when it was obvious his condition was worse than what we thought, the doc explained every detail thoroughly, and I could feel he was genuinely sorry nothing more could be done for him. They give you the option to go to a “less medical,” more calm room and give you the time and space you need to sit with your fur baby. The process was quick, which is all you can hope for in a situation like that.
I just want to say thank you to Dr. Phillips and the care team at CVS for doing what they could to help my cat, Dewey. He was my everything and it helps to know he was surrounded by good, safe hands in his final hours.

Years ago we used CVSR for an emergency complication our Great Dane was having with a surgery. They did a fantastic job keeping him stable until we could get him back to our vet the next morning. The staff was fantastic and caring.
Fast forward to 2/19/26, I highly recommend them to my daughter for her poodle, showing signs of bloat. I waited patiently by the phone to hear how he was doing.
To my surprise she was upset. Upset with how she was being treated. The vet tech was treating her very RUDLY, even making snippy comments about her budget. When they wanted to charge her an extra $350 for three XRay pictures, because the first picture wasnt clear. Yes, my daughter had a tight budget, but that wasn't a reason to be treated that way. The actual veterinarian was kind, and explained everything thoroughly. To bad her vet tech ruined this review.
Even at check out, after we just made the call to send him back home. We would get him care elsewhere. The vet tech shoved her paperwork into her hand as she were leaving. (We have money for his services, but she was trying to do this on her own, with her budget).
I have reached out to the actual website "contact" asking why she was treated so poorly, and replied to a survey text I received, with no response.
I know there isn't anyway to make this right, and it's a case of "he say she say", but I was very disappointed in hearing this place isn't what it once was. At least this one worker. Every person that walks through that door with money to spend, or is on a tight budget, should be treated kindly and with respect. No pet parent wants to give their pet or their money to rude employees.
Yesterday I had the experience every pet owner dreads, an unexpected emergency on a week-end when your regular vet office is closed. My sweet little 12 year old yorkie mix Claire was in the final stages of congestive heart failure and acute respiratory distress (very painful). I needed to get her into a vet clinic asap and fortunately for me I got to the closet one to where I live very quickly, California Veterinary Specialists. I was so blessed that the DVM on duty was Dr. Derrich Philips. He was exceptional! Very compassionate to what I was experiencing and let me know right away that Claire was in cardiac arrest and needed to be euthanized as soon as possible to relieve her suffering, but allowed me to say goodbye to my wonderful companion. I can't stress enough how much he and his staff were sensitive to my emotions in the final stages of Claire's life. I had planned to have her cremated through my regular vet office, and Dr. Philips said they could hold her until I could connect with my vet office the next morning to make those arrangements. I think most devoted pet owners tend to remember the final minutes of saying goodbye to their faithful companions, and thanks to Dr. Phillips and the caring staff I was glad it was a positive and loving experience.
