Dr. McNeal, affectionately known as "Mac," opened his small animal practice on Highway 17 in Pawleys Island in 1978, after relocating from Kentucky. In 1988, he moved to a new location on Shell Road, now Waverly Road. The following year, Candi Boyd (then Candi Lauretano) joined the practice, working summers and holidays throughout high school, college, and veterinary school. After graduating, Candi returned to Pawleys Island and became a full-time veterinarian, eventually partnering with Dr. McNeal to continue growing the practice.
