I’m writing this to warn other pet owners about the negligence I experienced at this Banfield location. My cat, a long-time patient on their Optimum Wellness Plan, was recently put down due to aggressive congenital heart disease and heart failure—conditions that were missed despite a final "all-day observation" visit. He was brought in with the following symptoms: elevated breathing rate for ~24 hours, tapeworm infection, and runny eyes possibly pointing to an upper respiratory infection. The level of clinical oversight was staggering: • Failure to Record Basic Vitals: Despite having my cat for an "all-day observation," the staff failed to record his heart beats per minute (BPM) and his breaths per minute (RR). They noted a heart rate was present but ignored the actual count, which was dangerously low. When I took him to an emergency vet hours later, they saw immediately that he was in shock. • Medical Misinformation: When I questioned why his rapid breathing wasn't flagged, the staff defensively claimed that over 100 breaths per minute is "normal" for a stressed cat at the vet. This is dangerously false. A normal rate is 10–36; anything over 50 is critical, and 100 is a sign of active respiratory failure. There is no medical literature that supports 100 RR as "normal stress." • Contradictory Diagnosis: The vet admitted over the phone that she heard fluid in his lungs and recorded it as "wheezing," which she acknowledged indicated a lower lung issue. She did not tell me at pick up that she heard fluid in his lungs. On the official report, she diagnosed it as a "possible URI" (Upper Respiratory Infection). Labeling a life-threatening lower-respiratory event as a minor upper-respiratory sniffle is negligent and cost us precious time. • Lack of Accountability: The clinic’s own reports list 10–36 RR as the normal range for breathing, yet they ignored my cat’s distress and offered no apology for the oversight. I was never told he needed an emergency vet or an ultrasound, which left my cat gasping for air for an additional 5 hours until I couldn’t stand seeing him suffer any longer and called VEG (veterinary emergency group), who informed me over the phone that 100 breaths a minute means the animal is dying. They were right. I trusted Banfield for years, but this location failed to perform even the most basic diagnostic observations when my cat’s life was on the line. I understand they couldn’t prevent aggressive heart failure, but they could have informed me so that I could help end his suffering sooner. No pet owner wants to see their animal suffocating to death. Please take your pets to a facility that understands basic vitals and prioritizes thorough, honest care. Update: they did refund me for the visit when I asked, but I want accountability. I want to hear “we messed up and we’re sorry”. I never received that message despite asking several times and to several staff members for acknowledgment of their negligence.

Veterinarian and vet assistant very snarky had a terrible attitude and talk to me rudely. I will definitely be looking for another place to bring my dog. And we were only there for a rabies shot they tried to tack on all these other things that I didn't bring him there for. I'm not stupid I know when you're trying to manipulate me into things that my dog doesn't really need. Also when I mentioned trying to get my dog off kibble veterinarian rolled her eyes and told me that he's better off on a kibble diet which I do not agree with. He gained 11 lb in 14 months they never took into consideration that he was a puppy when they first saw him and now he's 2. Solid muscles never even checked them over or anything just went on assumptions. At first the veterinarian didn't have the correct information and said it was since November 2025. I said he has not been to the vet since 2024. His previous owner brought him there and now I own him and things will be changing any will live a long time without getting sick so these veterinarians can make money off of my dog I don't freaking think so

They helped my beloved 18 year old cat cross the rainbow bridge. The staff were respectful and comforting. The vet tech did so many little extra things: making memory keepsakes, carefully wrapping her and placing her in her little burial box. Our family really appreciated everything.

They were great at first and came off friendly but that changed quickly. I took my dog in for a wellness/sick visit. He had a mass on his ear that kept getting bigger and I wanted to get it removed before it caused any problems. They gave me the run around in office about getting a price for the surgery. They kept pushing a care plan which I could have been interested in if they would have given me a price for the cost with it and without it. It took over two weeks to get a quote over the phone. When they finally gave me the quote I scheduled the surgery because the mass was still getting bigger. They were not able to get him in for over a month. The mass ended up breaking open and bleeding everywhere. I know they are not an emergency vet but they were extremely unhelpful. I tried calling to get his surgery moved up but they refused to look at any other doctors schedules than the one we originally saw. Which meant there were no openings and we had over 2 more weeks to wait until surgery. They wanted me to bring him in even though they said they could not do anything other than look at it. We ended up going to Pittsburgh Animal Wellness and Surgery in Greensburg. They were wonderful and I would highly recommend them over Banfield. They were lovely to speak to, got us in the same day even though they are also not an emergency vet. They ended up operating the same day and the cost was half the price of Banfield. Check out PAWS and steer clear of Banfield if you want what is best for your pet.
