They won't let you cancel your subscription if your pet dies! You will keep getting a monthly charge to remind you of of your painful loss. Do they need to? No. Do they care? No. Straight up evil.
After 9 great years I had to put my cat down earlier this month; she was the sweetest cat I'd ever owned. Obviously I was heartbroken. The staff at Banfield were wonderful throughout the death process. This 1 star review is for the corporate ownership who clearly only care about the bottom line and not a grieving pet owner. I had been on the Wellness + plan for years as my cat needed occasional dental work, which just renewed in November. When I contacted Banfield to cancel the policy after my cat died, they told me I needed to pay the remaining 9 months of the Wellness Plan, despite the fact that my cat is no longer alive to be seen and treated. I was flabbergasted - their reasoning was because I had used the plan benefits (procedure discounts, office visits) for 3 months, so I needed to pay the full plan amount. I obviously wouldn't have signed up for the full year if I knew my cat was going to die so soon. To top it off, my cat was too sick to receive any dental care so I never used the "Plus" part of my plan. I asked if they would at least lower the regular Wellness plan but apparently their "system doesn't allow that". I feel taken advantage of in a time of grief. When your pet dies, it feels evil to keep charging grieving owners for services they obviously won't be using. Now I'll get a painful reminder of my loss every month when I see the monthly Wellness charge hit my credit card. I understand this is a business and cancelling a plan would normally require paying the full year, but the death of a pet feels like this should be an obvious exception. I'm leaving my multi-year experience with Banfield with a very sour taste and I do not recommend anyone give their money to this company; it's clear they will do anything they can to suck more money from you before you go.

Banfield on Glisan had a next day appointment available for our cat that I was able to make online in the middle of the night. I was late for my appointment, but they still made every attempt to see our cat immediately. They were extremely attentive to his anxiety issues and were through it asking about his illness. I received a call back on our cat's condition in a relatively short amount of time. And not only did they give us medication to help with his illness, but anxiety medicine for when he needs to go back in. That they thought of his comfort for future visits really made me feel great about the entire experience.

this place was my vet office for my cat, they’re good at what they do. but i brought my cat in a plastic carrier where the top comes off with about 5 hatches holding the top on. when my mom went to go pick him up one of the hatches was missing and replaced with a zip tie, this zip tie did not hold the top on at all, you could not physically carry the carrier by the handle with my cat in it because the top was coming up from the corner by the door, a which made the door open. they tried to tell my mom that i had brought it in like that. you can ONLY carry the carrier with the handle because of how big and heavy it is, which wasn’t possible after the appointment. my mom called me and put me on the phone with them and they tried to tell me that’s how it came, it did not come like that. i don’t even own zip ties. they blatantly lied and would not admit it, if they had just said they lost/broke a piece and that they could offer a new one ( it was a 30-50 dollar carrier) then i wouldn’t have cared but they caused a scene with my mom and continued to lie. do not go here if you’re looking for appropriate service. i have never given them trouble before and they never gave me trouble either, i was surprised they even did this when i found out. ridiculous.
Frequently Asked Questions About Banfield Pet Hospital

What preventive pet health care services does Banfield offer?
We believe that preventive care is the most effective way to keep your pet healthy throughout all stages of life. Our pet hospitals offer many preventive care treatments, including:

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
