On April 21, I booked an appointment online at Banfield Pet Hospital (185th location) about 30 minutes before the scheduled time. I received a confirmation email, gathered my dog, and headed to the clinic. Upon arrival, I was told there was an issue with their system and that they could not honor the appointment. I was then rescheduled for the following day, April 22 at 4:00 PM.
I returned on April 22 at 4:00 PM for an in-room appointment to update my dog’s vaccines and complete his annual wellness check, including routine deworming. Initially, everything seemed fine. However, they decided to take my dog to the back to administer the vaccines. After some time, and hearing him clearly distressed they brought him back into the room and asked me to assist with putting a muzzle on him. I had no issue doing this, as I’ve handled him in similar situations before.
For context, my dog is a 34.8 lb Shiba Inu. He can be vocal, but in the entire decade I’ve been bringing him to Banfield, he has never shown aggression or required multiple staff members to complete routine services.
Shortly after, a staff member returned to the room in a completely unprofessional state, flustered, out of breath, and visibly overwhelmed. She told me she could not complete the service because my dog had “attempted to bite” and was “flailing around.” The way she communicated this was extremely aggressive and inappropriate. It was honestly shocking. Instead of taking a moment to collect herself or having another team member step in to communicate calmly, she came into the room with chaotic energy and directed it at me.
I even asked her if she was okay because of how aggressively she was speaking to me. She said that wasn’t her intention, but her behavior did not change. Without clearly explaining or asking for my consent, she immediately began trying to prescribe my dog trazodone to sedate him for a future visit. She rushed through this process so quickly that I had to stop her and ask her to slow down and actually communicate with me, as I was completely confused.
At that point, I made it clear that in the 10 years I’ve been a paying client, spending hundreds of dollars annually, I have never experienced anything like this. The level of disrespect toward both me and my pet was unacceptable.
I am extremely disappointed and honestly disgusted by how this situation was handled. I did not catch the name of the staff member, but this occurred during my April 22 appointment at 4:00 PM. She was a blonde woman wearing glasses.
While I’ve appreciated Banfield’s services over the years, this experience has completely broken my trust. I will not be returning to this location and will be canceling my plan when it ends in October. Moving forward, I will be seeking care elsewhere.

Awful care and awful management. (People in the clinic are kind.)
I have never wrote a review in my life, but I felt like I need to alarm people. Please do not go here if you care about your pet, because they don't care (despite they repeatedly saying that they will treat your pet as their own).
My puppy had a allergic reaction after a vaccine and we rushed back to the hospital to get treatment. He received care and was taken under observation. So far so good...
Shortly before the hospital closed, we received a call that he was stable and ready to be picked up. At pickup, his swelling was visibly worse, but we trusted them and assumed the swelling was even worse at one point and he was getting better.
15 minutes later at home, his swelling made him unrecognizable and he was in cyanosis (blue gum, almost no breathing). We rushed to a ER and he received the treatment he needed in the first place.
I understand that mistakes happen so I asked for a explanation why they thought he could be released. At that point the practice manager Madeline Peterson started to ignore my emails and calls. Never got a coherent explanation from her, but after a while talking with the medical staff, it came out that my puppy's vitals where not checked before he was release.
So in short: Mistakes happen, but if the person in charge is avoiding accountably by ignoring clients and this behavior has zero consequences, the system is rotten.
Since Banfield is asking me if I have changed my contact details…
Edit: No, I have not changed my contacts, and your sales team contacted me to upsell me the contract I cancelled yesterday, so you have my number.
It looks like Banfield reacts within a day to bad reviews, but keeps ignoring legitimate questions for weeks and only reaches out when they want to sell you something.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
