  After taking a couple weeks to process the death of my 4 year old Great Dane, I felt it absolutely imperative to share my experience. Healthy Pets has treated my animals for years. With that being said, my Great Dane developed a limp and we took her in for observation. We were told to monitor and come back in a month. The limp worsened and she had developed bone cancer in her front leg. In short, we lost a month of cancer treatment because our concerns were minimized. After the diagnosis, my original thought was treatment with Chemo to extend her life and say our goodbyes peacefully. The medical staff assured my family that we would have good success with amputation of the leg despite her enormous size. We agreed to have the leg amputated. We brought her home the day after surgery and monitored her closely. My sweet girl passed away the same day we brought her home on our couch. She was cold to the touch from shock or blood loss during surgery. When I reported her passing to the doctor, I was told that the cancer progressed quicker than what they anticipated. However, her lungs and heart were clear of any cancer and they were unwilling to accept responsibility for a failed surgery that took our dog’s life. Cancer is a progressive disease and this type of response is unacceptable and distasteful. This is one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever had to learn. If your animal needs surgery, do not take them to a general practice veterinarian. The same doctor that cleans your dog’s teeth should not be amputating their leg. Surgical incompetence is the sole reason my dog is not with her family today. If for one second he would’ve advise us to go to Med Vet or Ohio State, we would’ve been there in a heartbeat. There is no room for overconfidence in the care of people’s animals… My girl had time left. She wasn’t dying yet. They took that time away from us and her that we will never get back. Shame on you UNHEALTHY PETS of Hayden Run!!!!

  This is one of the hardest and most painful reviews I have ever had to write. I left my three-year-old, otherwise healthy dog in the care of Healthy Pets of Hayden Run for an overnight stay, and she never came home. Truth was admitted for an intestinal blockage after I was told she would receive fluids and be monitored overnight to see if she could pass the blockage before proceeding with surgery. After her death, I was informed that she was not monitored overnight at all and was left unobserved—directly contradicting what I was told when I agreed to her care. I received no updates, no phone calls, and no warning that her condition had worsened. I only learned that my Truthie had died after I personally called the clinic the following morning. When I later obtained her medical records, I discovered inconsistencies that did not accurately reflect what occurred during her stay. This has only compounded the trauma of losing my Truthie. If you are considering leaving your pet here overnight, ask very specific and direct questions about staffing, monitoring, and communication. Do not assume your pet will be watched simply because you are told they will be. I trusted this clinic with my Truth's life, and that trust was broken in the most devastating way.
