- CSCiera SmithDec 23, 20251.0I am giving this one star because of the treatment of the animals. The treatment is absolutely ridiculous and the misinformation given to families is simply disgusting. I witnessed a family FULL of young children requesting a parakeet or two from the bird aisle as I was shopping for my own bird. Then, the woman that was talking with them (I believe) did not preface ANYTHING about owning a bird and how expensive/time consuming/fragile they are. The lady starts using a NET to grab the parakeets, which is already a problem within itself because PetCo can’t even bother to try and teach their employees to be familiar with the animals and how to interact with them. At this point, I was already heated at the sheer ignorance this “pet store” chain oozes, and I quickly went to the checkout as soon as I saw the family picking out horrible items/food for the parakeet they were purchasing. Again, they were doing that because they 1. DID NO RESEARCH, and 2. The pet store did not EDUCATE them! I am sick and tired of seeing these disgusting pet store chains claim to be the best for your pet when in actuality they feed on misinformation save for maybe a few good, educated employees (which is sparse at these types of stores).
