Bond Vet - Bed Stuy is located at 1134 Fulton Street, in the heart of Brooklyn’s Bed Stuy neighborhood and convenient to Crown Heights and Bushwick. Bond Vet pioneered the concept of urgent care for pets, offering a caring, convenient clinic with late and convenient hours to provide timely medical care for urgent symptoms that can worsen with time: diarrhea, wound, eye and ear issues, rashes, coughing, limping, behavioral changes and other non-life-threatening symptoms. Because our collaborative and highly trained veterinary doctors and nurses comes from a broad background of general practice and emergency care, they are well equipped to handle a comprehensive range of cases, from primary care (routine wellness visits, vaccines, spay/neuter dental cleaning, mass removal) to more unique cases, like specialty orthopedic surgeries and cryptorchid neuters. In short, Bond Vet is here to be your one-stop shop for veterinary services. We created Bond Vet to bring veterinary medicine into the modern world, and we are here to make it more convenient and enjoyable than ever to get the vet care you need, when you need it. And because we know price matters, we’re upfront when it comes to diagnostic and care costs, offering several paths forward, along with pricing, and we won’t pressure you into doing more than you’re comfortable with (we won’t judge your choice, and we’ll save you time by helping you file pet insurance claims). One visit, and you’ll see Bond Vet is a new kind of veterinary clinic that’s better for pets and people alike; we’re excited to meet and treat you. Our first visit was in early October. We booked a visit because my cat (Mimi, 8 years old) was acting a bit lethargic, and hadn’t been to the vet in a few years so we wanted to get her a full work up. The vet we saw had a condescending undertone to her from the start and made me feel like a crappy cat owner despite not caring for my cat any differently than anyone I know does or any other way than I’ve taken care of all of my amazing, long-living cats throughout my lifetime. I was totally shocked at her demeanor, never having seen an animal professional with such an attitude. Since Mimi hadn’t been to the vet in a while she was a bit agitated, and at a slight moment of feistiness the vet immediately sent me off with gabapentin (a sedative) to have Mimi take and said we had to come back the next week. I gave Mimi the prescription as directed and returned. The next vet was a visiting doctor from Bond’s Clinton Hill location, and she could not have been more lovely. She talked to me about her cats, told me that Mimi was in great shape for her age, and addressed a couple similar things the other one did, like a slight heart murmur, without being rude. We did all of the routine exams and bloodwork and went home. Days passed and Mimi was still lethargic. We called Bond and they said it could take some time for the gabapentin to wear off. Eventually it was taking too long and her breathing was becoming labored. I took her to the emergency vet in the middle of the night and they did some surface level imaging but didn’t find anything suspicious. They said to come back if she was still breathing weird in 24 hours. We went home. The next morning we realized that Mimi’s labs had been sent to us the previous day. There were all kinds of numbers in red. We called the Clinton Hill Bond office to get in touch with the vet that Mimi saw, and when we got her on the phone and she pulled up the labs, she nearly began to cry. She told us that we had to get Mimi to the emergency room immediately because she was likely in kidney failure. The gabapentin hadn’t been able to get through her system because it is metabolized through the kidneys, which is why she remained incredibly lethargic. The vet was horrified that Bond BedStuy did not reach out to her immediately to call us regarding the labs. Let’s fast forward. Brooklyn Emergency Vet. UES Animal Hospital. Major kidney surgery that we were told would give her another 6-8 years. Weeks of e-tube feeding and constant at-home medical care. Vet visits that cost thousands of dollars every time we walked through the door. Things got better and worse and better and worse. Another inpatient visit. And then they called us in the middle of the night and said it was getting a lot worse. And that it was either time for a blood transfusion that would buy her a little time, or time for us to make the hardest decision. So we said the hardest goodbye. It was the hardest 5 weeks of my life. It’s hard to point fingers and impossible to place blame. But it’s hard to not think that had Mimi not been given gabapentin in the first place and just had her labs done on the first visit, maybe the vet would have seen the kidney issues pop up while she was still feeling normal and this experience wouldn’t have been so painful. Maybe the medical intervention wouldn’t have ended up costing us $30,000 from start to finish just in medical bills alone. Thirty thousand dollars to pay and no cat waiting for us at home. But shouldn’t the first vet have known that she shouldn’t give gabapentin to an already lethargic, possibly symptomatic kidney cat in the first place? Every other vet we saw after going here wondered that. I would never step foot into this private equity “design-forward” slop business again and wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. A vet office calling itself “design-forward” should be a red flag to begin with. Animal care should be at the forefront. RIP Mimi 💘

Went here today with an emergency case and had a professional vet experience with a well explored and explained situation of what our dog was actually experiencing and what our options were. We won't hesitate coming back when needed.

The Bond Vet located on Fulton Street has recently provided an unpleasant experience. While previous visits were satisfactory, the last two occasions were extremely disappointing. The staff exhibited rudeness, and when seeking assistance via phone, they were unable to offer referrals or guidance, even when admitting they did not provide certain services. It is unacceptable for staff to display an attitude towards patients, particularly when they are experiencing a first-time crisis with their pet. The observed lack of empathy and care was unwarranted. I cannot recommend this location for pet care.
