I have been taking my dogs to Banfield for years, and I have always maintained how wonderful my animals are treated. I have 2 dogs, Lulu is my Labrador mix and who is a rescue, and getting pretty old; then there is Mr. Banks, my sweet little man is a Schi-tzu and he will be 11 next month. Mr. Banks is having a lot of health issues, such as losing movement in his hind legs due to spine issues. Both are on prescription food, but the same food so it was easy to buy a big bag for both to share. But when I brought Lulu in for her comprehensive exam, I was told she had some kidney issues. They put her on medication and a new food. Which by the way, doesn't come in small bags.
They told me to bring her back in a month for a re-test. I was told at that appointment her kidneys have gotten worse and we should discuss end of life due to her age. It was very sad to hear that, but I agreed.
Please keep in mind, since June I have spent $2000+.
Today, October 4th, Lulu started throwing up uncontrollably and falling down. Her eyes were moving rapidly and she looked so confused. I called Banfield and left a message. I got a call back and she stated I should take her to the emergency vet but I really wanted them to see her, not a stranger. My son suggested I take her to his dogs vet and it was close by.
They took her in and a little while later the doctor came out to go over her test results. My Lulu is very healthy and NO kidney issues. I told the doctor about her kidney disease, so she re-tested her to make sure. Again, my dog does not have kidney disease!!!! She has a disease called Vestibular Disease. It is manageable.
Between all the money spent on tests, medicine and new food, it was all a waste!
While I was waiting at the vet, I went online and canceled my Banfield account. I will never go back!! I am so thankful I didn't take Lulu to Banfield this morning, because I know they would have euthanized her.
It sure would be nice to get that money back but that is a pipe dream.
All I can say to people who are using Banfield, or new customers coming in, be diligent and get a second opinion. My dogs are my family and I think Banfield knows that we love our animals and will spend anything to make them better.
SHAME ON YOU BANFIELD!!

The staff are fine but the company itself is terrible. Don't take your pets here and especially dont sign up for their Wellness Plan. There are a bunch of "read the fine print" details that you won't know unless you spend 3 hours reading the contract. You're not paying monthly for a plan, you're paying for a year in monthly installments, meaning you cannot cancel until that year ends. Yes, I still have to pay for the puppy under one year plan after my puppy is older than a year. If your auto-payment is blocked for any reason, they won't notify you, just issue a $20 fine. As for actual treatment, the staff are friendly here, but not nearly as thorough as I've experienced at other vets. Got my puppy neutered and they did fine, but weren't specific about his care at all. You'll have to specifically ask them if you need to know things like how long the cone has to be on, when can they eat after surgery (which you will need to know). The company's just pretty money hungry.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
