I’m not sure when it happened, but this vet practice was bought up by private equity. If you don’t already know about what private equity is, you should look into it. The goal is to maximize profits for the corporate entity that owns the business. These businesses make it almost impossible for vets to provide good, affordable care by the using following methods - reduce staff, increase benefits/ healthcare costs, incentivize unnecessary diagnostic tests, double book appointments etc. I really feel for the people who work here because, I know they really do care deeply for animals but private equity ensures that they cannot do their jobs to the best of their abilities. We had to leave after too many poor experiences and wanted to support a local vet that is not owned by private equity.

I’m a single mom and have been a client of Westfield Animal Hospital for nearly a decade, bringing in four pets over the years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. I have an 11-year-old dog who is slowing down, and I’m trying to avoid unnecessary vaccinations at her elderly age. I asked for a short note so she could be groomed this week, and spoke directly with the office manager about the request. I was told I would need to pay $100+ for a required vet visit just to obtain that letter, despite the fact that my dog is not sick and does not need a medical visit for grooming clearance. I fully understand that veterinary practices have policies, but I was surprised there was no willingness to help, no flexibility in cost, and no consideration given my long history as a client with 4 pets over the years. I even explained that I went through a very difficult financial year, including moving out of town and selling my home, and was hoping for some understanding or a reduced fee. Instead, I was advised to go to a clinic with zero alternatives. For a long-term client with multiple pets, this felt dismissive and transactional rather than compassionate especially when it involved an elderly dog. I respect the veterinarians and the care they provide, but this experience left me feeling unsupported.

Very caring staff. I adopted 2 new 11 week old rescue pups and I wouldn’t put their care in another vet’s care

Took my cat in to groom/shave some matted fur and clip nails. Vet said she was due for some shots and recommended some routine bloodwork as well. Naturally, I agreed. THEY CHARGED ME $815!!! $100 just to look at her... $100 to shave 2 small spots of matted fur... $315 for the bloodwork they suggested I do. I couldn't believe it. We did full chemotherapy appointments for our dog that cost less than this. THEN, it took a month to actually get the results of the bloodwork (for which I had to call twice to request)... and no explanation of what I was even looking it. You would think for the insane money they charged me, that they might timely send the results and give a courtesy call to explain what those results meant. I had good experiences with this vet in the past, but I feel completely taken advantage of this time. Will be going elsewhere, and I encourage people to be wary of what this vet charges for seemingly routine/ordinary services.
