I had a very disappointing experience at the Petco in Salem, NH. I went in to purchase a small clownfish and was refused service by an employee who told me my tank was “too small” and that selling me the fish would be “cruel to animals.” The delivery of this message was condescending and unnecessary. What made this interaction especially frustrating was the obvious inconsistency. While being lectured on animal welfare, I observed ferrets kept in a visibly dirty enclosure, multiple overcrowded fish tanks, and betta fish stored in small plastic containers. It’s difficult to take a moral stance seriously when the store’s own animal care standards appear questionable. If Petco is going to empower employees to make judgments about customers’ tank setups and accuse them of cruelty, then the company should ensure its stores are held to the same—or higher—standards of animal care. Customers who invest in aquariums are often trying to provide better conditions than what they see in-store, not the opposite. This experience felt less about education and more about poor training and poor customer service. I hope management takes a closer look at how animals are cared for in-store and how employees communicate with customers. Petco can do better.

Great place to shop for my dog. I can also bring my dog in and she loves going around the store. They have a lot of things to choose from and the staff is very helpful and professional. I highly recommend this store.

Lynne the store manager needs lots of training and doesn't give any customer service. I had received several emails with a 20% off grooming so I clicked on one to make an appointment and I did. The cashier didn't know how to use it and Lynne refused after I showed it to her. I never had a problem there before and I go only to have Lindsay groom my dog she is the best. Have her train Lynne. Not going back until I receive the discount I was promised.

Signed up for the first exam to be free arrived and was taken in a timely manner. Was sold a package for approximately $220 Sent to the back of the store were three people were working like an assembly line. They did not examine the my dog. They only provided shots did not take the temperature because the temperature gun wouldn’t work didn’t exam the dog look for lumps health teeth ears. My dog has a yeast infection that I’m treating her for in her ears. that was never seen or mentioned her ears. I’m directed to the register they scans my receipt from the Vet almost $280. I say to the cashier that was not accurate and somethings is wrong. This should have been about 220 she turns to her ignorant Manager with zero identification just a T-shirt on. She comes over with her attitude problem doesn’t acknowledge me. The cashier explains and the manager goes well that’s what it says with an attitude $280. I said They told me it was around 220 well they do that back there again doesn’t acknowledge me takes the receipt and storms to the back of the building leaving me there like a fool with my wife. My wife stays at the register and I go to the back to see what’s going on and proceed to stand there for almost 20 minutes while the vets tries to figure out what’s going on. She acknowledges the problem apologizes and the manager doesn’t do nothing or say anything to me standing there in different I’m wasting her time. They correct the bill give me a discount. I didn’t ask for a discount and all new paperwork. I walk up to the register. The Manager offered to check me out and only then gives me an artificial apology and I leave. I receive a text message saying I missed my appointment. There’s nothing on my app showing that I actually went to an appointment so I’m sure when I go back for the final shots in that package those will be messed up, and I can’t even begin to tell you the line in the backup that was formed because of their mistake and confusion with people standing there, holding their pets waiting to be examined and given their shots. This didn’t just affect me it Affected several people. Not only did you waste 20 minutes of my life. It also wasted Everyone’s time.
