To preface: I have notes, screenshots of records, and witnesses in the car at the time of this event to back this up. Thank you to Shauna, who was the ONLY redeeming person today!!! I brought both of my dogs in for dental cleanings and additional work - well over $700 worth of care. I was notified in a phone call with Dr. Perkins (who was on speakerphone) that one of my dogs had a low hematocrit (value of 36) and recommended I get a recheck ultrasound done on his spleen to clear him for dental cleanings. I drove back to get him and take him to an emergency vet to get that ultrasound done as well as a recheck on his hematocrit and red blood cell count. The emergency vet found nothing wrong, and determined his hematocrit at 40 (within normal limits). That ER vet mentioned how they always treat symptoms over values, since instruments can (and do) have standard deviations. My dog had no symptoms at any point. I communicated this to the receptionist staff, apologizing for the frustration at the turn of events. What really put the proverbial nail in the coffin was when the vet called me that afternoon after he had been released from the ER vet. After talking over me, she said "nobody forced you to go; it was just a recommendation." THAT is absolutely beyond disgraceful. When you're acting in your official capacity AS A DOCTOR, a recommendation is that it is for the best care of the patient that you have this done in a timely manner. If a doctor recommended you get an x-ray, you're most likely going to go and do that - your own well-being might DEPEND on you getting that done. Did I get ANY sort of apology? Not a single one from any of the staff. I will never set foot in here again; I honestly don't trust them anymore. If you can find anywhere else to see your pet, PLEASE RUN there instead. The ONLY reason we stayed with Banfield when we relocated from Dallas was because we were paying for the pet care plans and couldn't cancel. This experience has taught us to cut our losses. Edit to add: Upon review of his medical notes from today, Dr. Perkins seemed to misrepresent our conversation from this afternoon. I guess that's fine since we're never going back there anyway, but I did expect more transparency and accountability in documentation.
