My daughter’s kitten hit her head , which caused her to have a bad seizure & I called around a this was the only place within an hour that could get her in to be seen. I drove 50 mins at 2 am & they got her right back, they didn’t charge me a crazy amount & I just can’t thank them enough for helping us. I am forever grateful!! The staff was very empathetic & I can tell they care about what they do! I have been to other emergency vets and I can attest that they’re not all this way! Some are very cold, even in the situation that you have to have your pet euthanized suddenly. My pets are family & they treated us with compassion & thoroughly explained options, suggested insurance & told us of other awesome vet offices around the triad.
Highly recommend!
Thank you so much Carolina Veterinary Specialists of Winston Salem!

Our pup ripped her nail down to her kwik on a Friday evening after the vet closed. Since it was hurting her we went ahead and brought her in. We were treated with such kindness from the moment we stepped into the door until the moment we left. They took back the more serious patients first, and still got us in so quickly afterwards. We are throughly impressed with the love and care they gave our girl even though they were busy with more important matters. Five stars all around

I used to frequent this emergency vet when I first moved to Winston back in 2011. They were fantastic, kind, and helpful. However, the last three times I brought my dogs here were some of the most frustrating and stressful vet visits I’ve ever had. The staff was rude, the wait times were excessive (over 8 hrs on one visit), and the “care” my pets received was lackluster at best. I couldn’t fathom how far this practice had fallen, so I did a little digging. Looks like they were bought out by a firm called PetVet Care Centers, which explains why they act like they care more about the financial aspect of emergency veterinary care, than they do the actual care of animals. So sad to see how this practice has gone from a trusted place to take my pets to a place where I wouldn’t bring my worst (human) enemy.

Came in at 9 AM on a Sunday with my 4-month-old English Bulldog puppy, who has cherry eye. I needed advice on tuck vs removal surgery and basic lubrication drops to prevent irritation. Front desk was friendly but kept insisting they only handle “actual emergencies” and suggested other clinics, even though I confirmed walk-ins over the phone.
After almost 3 hours in a crowded lobby with no updates, they said the wait was now 6+ hours. No triage, no quick consult—just frustration. As a new owner dealing with a breed-specific issue, I expected better from a specialty hospital. Left without seeing a vet, puppy still uncomfortable. If it’s not a life-or-death case, go to UrgentVet or a low-cost clinic instead—they’re more reliable for urgent-but-not-ER needs. Major disappointment; won’t return.

My dog is very tall and reached some of my medication which I now am keeping in a safe. Anyway, I was told to start with poison control for pets.
I then was advised to take my dog in after getting him to vomit. My complaint #1 is that I drove over 1 hour from Virginia to get there and was not warned of their wait times. I was told 1 hour then they changed it from 4-6 hours.
I sometimes tend to be too nice and after reading many other reviews here saying the same thing..... It may be unlikely I would return to this Vet. They said he should be seen due to the possible amount of medicine he ingested. Poisoning is time sensitive and usually getting it out of their system should be done sooner rather than later. They offered to reassess my dog in order of importance because he was curled up in a ball with shallow breathing.
To try and be more brief: They need to triple the number of people working there to keep up with the intake they receive. For some reason I just didn't have a good feeling and left rather than sleeping overnight in my car waiting for a spot that would pan itself out on its own by the time my appointment would have arrived.
I hate to be mean but lets just say that I am originally from Raleigh where the Vet School sets the tone for the whole region. I am used to top-notch care and was not really impressed with this place. There used to be a Hospital call VSH in Raleigh that the people deeply cared about their work and they invested heart and soul in the animals care. Getting seen was immediate. NC State has an ER and they are Wonderful.
I had to leave and go home to watch my dog on my own. I was never warned of the wait before my 1 hour drive.
It just didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. Why the wait times that ridiculous? They need to quadruple the staff and Doctors in my opinion and I don't really have a good enough feeling to return.....
By the time they would have gotten to my dog, his outcome would have already panned out. Thank God he is sleeping and seems okay for now!
I just didn't get a good 1st impression and am apprehensive to ever return.
