I haven’t been here in years, but I’m still thankful for them making my worst vet experience one of the most compassionate.
Years ago, I took my very elderly hamster (he was over four years old) there due to him having a large growth on his jaw that impeded his movement so severely that I had to hand feed him as he couldn’t move about his enclosure. I knew his days were numbered due to his advanced age and physical ailments, but I didn’t want him to linger in pain until his time came either.
I took him to this vet and they made him comfortable by petting him (he was an extremely tame, docile little hamster) and then put him to sleep. Other than the brief prick it was painless and he was finally not suffering.
Still I broke down, especially when they wrapped his little body in a towel for me. The vet spared me some kinds words, and the receptionist cried because I was so distraught and even hugged me. It don’t mean much at the time because all I could think on was how I just lost my little buddy, but looking back on the terrible day it now means a lot.
R.I.P. Wall-E. The best hamster ever.

Beware of Kittrell Animal Hospital, if you love your babies. My sister was an establish client, who put her trust in these people. But when her cat Chance, had a medical emergency, they refused to see him. She begged explaining, he was dying, for just a one minute visit. He was in immediate danger. She was told no, that they were booked. She made a second call an hour later, begging them for just a minute to see him, he was dying. They still refused. Our family went to great lengths to save this liter, rescuing Chance and his siblings, to give them a good home, only to be turned away during this emergency. Chance was 13 MONTHS OLD. Isn't that sad. Rest in peace baby. Your family will be your VOICE.

In response to Kittrell Animal Hospital's reply to my review, let me clear up some mistruths you wrote about our conversation Saturday following Chance's untimely death. Not one time during our conversation did you say Saturday's can be extremely busy and there are times pets cannot be added to the schedule & are often referred to an emergency care facility. YOU SIMPLY DID NOT SAY THAT. Nor did Courtney mention emergency care, which I am very familiar with. You said the opposite. You stated how Chance should have absolutely been seen Saturday & apologized several times that he was denied care in his critical state. Especially with him being an established patient. When I specifically asked you if my request to have Chance worked in for emergency care Saturday was unreasonable, your words were NO, absolutely not, that my request was not unreasonable and he should have been seen. You also said your team met to discuss why this happened & reiterated it should NOT have happened. I also shared with you I contacted the Emergency Hospital Friday night but the wait was 6 hours. Yes, I may should have taken him Saturday morning after he was denied care by you, but extenuating circumstances prevented me for going Saturday. So, I just prayed he would make it until the Monday morning appointment I was given. Please don't write you advised me sometimes Saturday's are too busy to work in pets who need emergency care when in fact you never said that. It's offensive & simply not true.
I thought I was established with a competent, caring & compassionate Vet practice until my sweet Chance became critically wounded. I found a highly infected wound on him Thursday April 16th, at first thinking it might heal on its own. By Friday evening I knew he was extremely critical & stayed up with him Friday night just praying he would make it through the night until I could get him to his vet, Kittrell Animal Hospital Saturday morning. I called the second they opened at 8am & explained the situation to Courtney, expressing the critical nature of his injury. She immediately stated he could not be seen as they we're fully booked. No compassion or concern at all. Approx an hour later I called back & begged for them to at least see him long enough to prescribe an antibiotic until I could get him in Monday morning for a more thorough exam & treatment. I was once again told no. My sweet boy died Sunday morning. He was 13 months old. Still a baby, otherwise healthy & full of life. He was our world. I emailed the vet twice since his passing & asked her to please reach out to me to discuss how & why this could happen---just to help me get some peace & closure, yet I haven't heard a word. No call, no email. Nothing. We failed you Chance. I am so sorry your vet turned away from you when you needed her most. RIP sweet boy. You will he missed.

The staff was great and they were very sweet. They are always a little condescending whenever I go to pay or ask about cost, but I appreciate them making sure I can afford it. I’m sure it’s because of how I look they assume that. I wish they wouldn’t because I feel like I probably don’t get as top notch care, because of that assumption. Besides that they are professional, they called to let me know their system messed up and I wouldn’t be seen, technology issues happen and I appreciate that reached out! All in all besides being profiled every time I go there It was a decent experience I felt like I was rushed but I’m sure they are busy. Goin to a different vet tommorw in Realigh, coming from Charlotte this whole small town vet vibe is kind of weird so I’m excited to see the difference in care between the too.
