I have been taking my pets to Lakecross collectively for 23 years. I have 3 dogs the oldest 14 who has been cared for by Lakecross for his entire life. There have been a few issues over the years that I have overlooked but this year I was extremely disappointed with the way Dr Hammer examined my 14 year old dog. She and her assistant were trying to draw blood from my dog without a muzzle because they use “ the low stress method “ and our dog for the first time in 14 years did not like how they were drawing blood, and he bit Dr Hammer as she poked him with a needle. Our dog has arthritis and he is probably soar most of the time and getting a needle probably didn’t please him. This is something, perhaps, Dr Hammer should have anticipated. When Dr Hammer came with Chester into the examining room she told me he bit her and I got the impression she thought I should have warned her. Once again, my dog has no history of biting anyone at Lakecross. Dr Hammer told me she would not examine our dog that day and she would send me home with a sedative I was to give him before the rescheduled appointment and then she would examine him. I ask they put a muzzle on him and examine him with me in the room helping which she reluctantly did. He did not get blood drawn or teeth examined. I was assertive with Dr Hammer and asked why she did not use a muzzle when drawing blood. The answer was they use the low stress method and she cut me short when I was voicing my displeasure with the way the examination was going. I was not raising my voice at all but the assistant grimaced as if in pain that I was voicing my displeasure. Dr Hammer then left the examining room to check and see if it was ok for me to leave. When she returned she only cracked the door and said I could leave, without making eye contact or even looking at me. She only cracked the door slightly, I couldn’t even see her. How unprofessional can one get? Anyway after 14 years I’m saying goodbye to Lakecross. They don’t serve a 4.7 star rating on Google reviews. They, at one time, provided good care, but they have slipped significantly.
Just an update Dr. Hammer refused to respond to my complaint demonstrating how unprofessional she is. When I made appointments with Lake Cross I used all the Doctors so her actions will take business away from them also. I think it’s a good idea they talk with her and give her advice on how to properly talk to customers and care for their pets.

Not a good first impression. I waited two weeks and never received a response to either my first or second email. Prompt communication is important to me, so I won’t be using this place for my pets if simple contact form emails aren’t answered.
