The gerbils were scratching nonstop at the glass, clearly stressed and unable to burrow. The wheel was also knocked over on its side. Gerbils require deep bedding (8–12 inches) and proper enrichment to prevent stress. I hope management will review their small animal care practices to better meet the needs of these animals.
