We have been going here for a couple years now. Everyone is so helpful. I have had to call in to get vet records last minute for my dogs and they have been very quick to email them over. There has been times when my dogs weren’t feeling well so I call in and get them in same day. I appreciate it and feel like they generally care about my two dogs .

Sometimes a business stands out -- Banfield does, but for all the wrong reasons. We bought our cat here 11 years ago, and have used Banfield occasionally for emergencies or when her primary clinics had long waits, but that ends here. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the priority was not our cat’s care, but selling their Optimum Wellness Plan. Before anyone examined her, the vet tech came in and stated, “I discussed the symptoms with the vet, and we think you should test and treat for pancreatitis,” then immediately launched into a sales pitch for the plan. At this point, not a single person had touched or looked at our cat, and she was barely out of her carrier. She used our cat’s name and reported symptoms, showing this was not a simple mix-up. We brought her in for a simple birthday check-up, with notes that she had started eating too fast without chewing and occasionally vomiting. When we requested an actual hands-on exam before launching into the invasive services she discussed around Pancreatitis, or selecting an Optimum Wellness plan to cover the services, the vet came and examined her. Pancreatitis was not mentioned at all. Instead, the vet discovered a dental cyst and recommended an extraction, antibiotics, and pain medication. When reviewing costs for the extraction, the vet tech ran numbers “with and without” their plans, most of which did not cover what we needed for either the extraction or pancreatitis services. Only vague “10–30% discounts” applied to select services. This was still pitched to us as a money saver despite repeatedly pointing out that the most expensive services were not covered or discounted. She mentioned we would be going home with a “very strong painkiller” we had not approved, and at this time I hit a wall where too many sketchy things were going on, so we requested a private conversation with the doctor. The vet confirmed she had never discussed any treatment plan for pancreatitis or otherwise with the vet tech before seeing our cat and assured us pancreatitis was not a concern at this time. We were dumbfounded. The staff were all polite and friendly, but the focus, especially from the vet tech, was clear: hit sales targets, not help the patient. It felt like the hospital we used to trust had been turned into a sales desk, with staff trained more as sales representatives than veterinary professionals. They even have these Optimum plans plastered on the walls in the treatment and waiting rooms. I had not planned to post this review and trust our experience was a fluke, but today we received a follow-up call not to check on our cat’s health, but to ask if we needed help understanding or enrolling in an Optimum Wellness tier. That is unacceptable, and in my opinion a heinous business practice. We will not be returning. About the Optimum Plans These plans are not insurance. They are prepaid service bundles locked into 12-month contracts that renew automatically, with the opportunity to pay monthly for the contract. Coverage is limited depending on tier, the “discounts” are inconsistent, and prices are not printed on the flyers in office. Researching further, I found aggressive promotion of these plans is a common complaint of a large amount of Banfield locations. In our case, it compromised the medical advice we received and our confidence in Banfield entirely. Veterinary guidance should come from compassion and expertise, not corporate quotas. We will not be returning.
