We found an adorable 2-year old Tuxedo cat and wanted to see if we could see him play with him for a bit. I had asked the front cashier (who looked bored, on his phone) if there’s any way we could do so, and he responded with a cold, “No, we can’t do that.” Confused, I asked, “How are we supposed to know the cats’ personality before we adopt them?” He responded, “Well the one on the top hates being held and the one on the bottom is crazy.” I was completely taken aback by this rude, insincere comment. It’s almost as if he DIDN’T want us to adopt one of these poor babies. He proceeded to repeat that they “aren’t allowed to do that.” then said, “I’m confused, you guys have adoption days where people are allowed to meet the cats?” He responded with a dry, “Yeah, but then Covid.” I was over it at this point. He proceeded to stare at his phone as if I was a nuisance for asking anything. These poor animals are going to have such a hard time getting adopted due to the fact that this store (possibly others) aren’t allowing customers to actually meet and interact with them. Not to mention, this particular associate was so rude and definitely did not have sympathy for these sweet animals. I cannot believe it. Someone needs to advocate for these poor, helpless animals. For a pet store to not prioritize their animals and discourage people from adopting is appalling. As a shelter/rescue, etc. I would NEVER offer an animal to this establishment to adopt out. Petco is no longer a place I will be visiting.
