Molly is so great with my dog! My dog can get scared super easily and is afraid of new places but Molly has such a way with her. I really appreciate all she does!

I was a loyal Petco customer for over five years and had consistently positive experiences until a horrific grooming incident that Petco has still failed to address months later. Several months ago, I brought my dog in for a routine grooming appointment. Within 48 hours, he developed a severe skin infection. Large clumps of hair began falling out, and the subcutaneous swelling became so extensive that he was unable to walk. I initially feared he had suffered a spinal injury due to significant dysmotility. He was urgently evaluated by our veterinarian, who diagnosed a deep skin infection with significant soft-tissue swelling. The swelling was so severe that there was concern for potential spinal compression, and we were advised to start laser therapy immediately. My dog required three weeks of intensive treatment, including laser therapy, anti-inflammatories, and a prolonged course of antibiotics to prevent spread of the infection. He was placed on strict bed rest due to the severity of his condition. The pain he endured was heartbreaking. The veterinary staff even told me they could hear him crying from other rooms during his treatments because of how painful it was. Thankfully, after weeks of care, he recovered—but what he went through is something I would never want another pet to experience. I am incredibly grateful to our veterinarian and their team for acting quickly and compassionately. Petco’s response, however, has been nothing short of negligent. I reported this incident four months ago, and Petco has yet to take any accountability or provide meaningful follow-up. During my first phone call, before even asking how my dog was doing, I was asked, “So what are you looking to gain from this?” a very dismissive and inappropriate response given the circumstances. I have spoken multiple times with the grooming department lead, Kim, who has shown compassion and had always previously done a good job with my dog. Unfortunately, there has been no follow-through from Petco as a company. I submitted veterinary bills totaling under $900—a very reasonable amount considering the severity of the injury—and was told they would be reviewed. It has now been four months. I have no case number, no point of contact, and no communication. I call several times a week, am told my information is being documented, and that someone will call me back, yet no one ever does. This pattern of empty promises is deeply unprofessional and dismissive. Staff may not personally have the answers, but repeatedly telling a customer they will be contacted and then failing to follow through is unacceptable, especially when a pet was seriously harmed. My dog became severely ill following a grooming appointment, and Petco has failed to take ownership, provide transparency, or even demonstrate basic communication and accountability.
