I initially chose Bittersweet Pet Resorts because they were recommended by my vet, and I appreciated that they had setups for dogs labeled “Do Not Handle.” My dog falls into that category, so that was important to me. Unfortunately, over time, the experience declined. I was eventually told not to return unless my dog received training, as staff had become fearful of him and claimed his behavior was getting worse with each stay. On his last visit, I was told they had to use multiple chains to secure his kennel door. There was one incident where he got loose and charged the fence. However, this happened while I was present and attempting to administer his vaccines. I asked a staff member to step out of his line of sight because he was becoming fixated on her, and I could not safely proceed. She refused. At that point, he hit the kennel door, it came open, and he ran to the fence—but did not attempt to jump it. As soon as she moved away, he immediately calmed down, and I was able to finish and secure him without issue. That incident was later used as part of the reasoning for dismissing him as a client. What concerns me most is that my dog was not being handled during his stays, so it’s unclear how his behavior could have been escalating unless something in the environment was triggering him. Since moving to a new facility, he has completed three stays with consistently positive reports—even acknowledging his quirks. This makes me question whether the staff were properly equipped or trained to manage reactive dogs, despite advertising accommodations for them. What makes this more frustrating is that my dog had been boarding here for over a year. This was not a new or unknown dog, which makes the sudden change in how his behavior was described (worse and worse from his already reactive baseline) even more concerning. Ultimately, I was very disappointed. Owners of reactive dogs rely on facilities that truly understand and can safely manage these behaviors. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

We felt a great sense of peace while we’re on our vacation because we receive photos every day watching our dog play and she seemed happy. We really appreciated the updates.
