My dog was 14 years old and had been a patient here since she was a puppy. While we didn’t bring her in every single year, she was always healthy and we trusted this clinic with her care throughout her life. When she suddenly became acutely ill, I reached out hoping to get her seen quickly—especially knowing her age and history with them. Instead, we were told that because we hadn’t been in recently, we would now be considered “new patients,” and the soonest available appointment was 3–4 weeks away. My dog didn’t have 3–4 weeks. I wasn’t sure she had 3–4 days. In one of the most heartbreaking moments of her life, and ours, there was no compassion, no effort to triage, no guidance, and no sense of urgency. After being part of this clinic’s patient family for so many years, the lack of empathy was extremely painful. I understand that schedules get busy, but end-of-life care requires sensitivity and humanity. We didn’t feel that here, and it’s something I’ll never forget.

I called FVC to establish local health care for her and to follow up on what I speculated was a small bladder infection. I was told they only accept new clients providing the dog is already healthy. Every new customer must wait to make an appointment regardless of health or circumstance and recommended I go somewhere else. Companion animal hospital in Linden offered an appointment the following day, due to her assumed infection, for comparison.
