They cut my dog's hair as they wanted, it was not what we asked for, we showed them how we wanted my hair to be cut, and they simply cut all my dog's hair. I would definitely not schedule a grooming appointment there again

The employee who helped was extremely genuinely kind last night even though it was close to closing. She was eager to help and professional even though I approached her when she was doing something. I didn’t recognize her, I think she’s new (a young girl with short hair). She knew about aquatic plants for aquariums and was very happy to discuss them. She helped me with my choice for new floater plants & also with finding the moss I was looking for. She was extremely thorough with helping! She is another great asset to this store like Chi is.
I see a lot of negative comments, and I think people need to get a grip.
Chi is worth his weight in gold! He is such an asset to the store and every creature he has any responsibility for. He obviously has a great love for all the creatures & knows everything about all of them. He set me up a couple years ago with the perfect type of hamster for a child -a type that is docile and easy to hold. He was a godsend source of info for the set up and care of the hamster. In effect, the experience made the child’s mom go in all the time for more hamster treats, food, things for the hamster’s home as well as all the usual products like bedding. Even the small animal vet in kennebunk was told about wonderful Chi! Chi enriched the child’s life with the right hamster after the child’s dad died of cancer. The hamster was a very special loved family member who had a long wonderful life, and I couldn’t thank Chi enough.
Nobody who is a rational person can say a thing negative about Chi. He also is the reason why I’ve had ability to expand my aquarium hobby and include many different plants. His knowledge is better than anyone’s anywhere. He has helped my whole family make the right choices for animal care and to bring or not bring certain creatures into our homes. We once had an idea to buy and fly a guinea pig to Washington to be a part of the family there. We learned from chi about how nervous guinea pigs are, so we knew that it would be inhumane to do it.
Chi is realistic about the feelings and needs and proper care of all the creatures in the store. It’s not convenient for some people who simply want their way even though it would end in the suffering and soon death of the little creature they want to buy. Chi is trying to balance kindness with being realistic. It’s his responsibility to care for these creatures & help customers do the same.. If Petco ever sided with irrational customers, Petco would lose business when the pet ends up not making it.
Someone said Petsmart sells great complete aquarium set ups, and this is untrue. Petsmart’s got the junkiest excuses for fish habitats- they’re tiny, cheap toxic plastic and often come with inadequate lighting and improper filtering (too much currant for bettas), etc…. I could make a whole list... I’ve also had the worse experiences with horrible advice, witnessed many customers not getting proper advice or any at all for success, and I’ve had times with no help or rude help at a variety of Petsmart stores. I have also met kind helpful staff at Petsmart’s. But, they don’t have good betta set ups! Buy a 9.5 gallon Imagitarium complete set up at Petco instead!
Back to Petco- there was a woman a while back in the fish department at this Petco who wasn’t helpful. I highly recommended that store to a great person, but she was rude and completely discouraging. The person I sent there will never again go near the place, sadly. My family & friends are very receptive to information delivered with basic decency. When I was there, I was looking at some bettas who looked in bad shape- from shipping I guess. I was trying to decide what one to buy & help. & she grilled me but not even on my set up.. The manner wasn’t good. I finally told her I’ve had them for 30 years with 100% success, & Chi knows that i know what I’m doing. I was fully prepared with an established ten gallon aquarium all ready- I guess she still disapproved. I only needed her to get me plants, and she ignored me after until I finally left.

I had a great experience at Petco, especially in the fish department thanks to Chi! He is extremely knowledgeable about fish, aquarium setups, and aquatic plants. He took the time to explain everything in detail and made sure I understood how to properly care for my tank. His expertise and helpful attitude made the whole experience enjoyable and stress-free. If anyone is looking for advice or information about fish, I highly recommend having a conversation with Chi—you won’t be disappointed!

I work in the same plaza as Petco and shop here almost daily with my dog, Gonzo. The same employee that I told that there was broken glass outback by their dumpster told me, “Oh, it was just homeless people digging through them, and it’s not their responsibility to clean up broken glass out back.” She also just a couple of days ago very rudely told me not to let my dog go up to the guinea pigs or small animals because, and I quote, she said that they can have heart attacks or seizures when they see prey animals. Now, this is true in the wild, but for domesticated animals, that should not be the case. They should not be buying guinea pigs if they are not bred to be socialized with other animals. So, when you sell a guinea pig, are you going to say, “Hey, make sure you guys don’t have any other dogs or the other animals at home because these guinea pigs and rodents can have seizures and heart attacks?” Definitely not something you should be telling people, and you definitely should not be selling rodents and guinea pigs if they are not domesticated!
