I came looking for a snake, but was unsure which kind was best for me as a beginner. I knew I wanted a chill snake but was nervous to have a snake that grew bigger than me. Milk snakes were appealing because they stay relatively skinny despite their length. The man that helped me recommended a ball python because despite their length and girth, they were the better snake to handle. Within 2 minutes, a python was placed in my hands and I fell in love. Stayed completely calm, let me pet his head, and I knew he would be my snake. I was recommended an enclosure that would last while the snake grows, a hide, a water dish, and the bedding. I didn’t know too much about pythons except that there were certain temperature and humidity requirements for the enclosure. I expected to do some research to perfect my parenting of my new snake, but I also expected to be led in the right direction on taking care of this new animal or at least give me enough info to get me started.. I have to say, that’s where I feel let down in my experience. My first complaint is that he was actually a she and I know female pythons or snakes in general tend to grow larger than males.. Initially, the snake growing larger than me in length was a concern and now it’s likely a certainty. Next, I learned thru more research that I needed another hide and A LOT more clutter for her. She paced the enclosure all day and night for the first 2 days I had her until I could get these things which made me feel AWFUL. Next, feeding… the guy told me one mouse a week was all she needed.. but after research, she actually needs 2 mice or 1 rat which would’ve been helpful to know before the first time I fed her. Additionally, she actually refused the feeding before I bought her so now I’m sad that I underfed a probably very hungry snake (I also did not know she didn’t eat, he told me the last day she was fed and didn’t mention her refusal). All in all, I’m in love with my new snake. She has the enclosure she deserves and all the love she can handle. I know it’s my responsibility for all the research, I just wish I had a little bit more insight when I was there. Lastly, she escaped the top of the enclosure the first night home. THAT was one of those things I felt an experienced snake owner would’ve mentioned lol I had to buy clamps and use weights to secure the top. Thank goodness I was watching her like a hawk that night. Anyway, I really appreciate the help I did receive because I’m so happy with my pet. But a little more info would’ve made all the difference to me knowing just how much I was getting into.

The feeder insects are always dead. Everytime i go here theres 20+ containers of roaches, hornworms, and crickets and 99% of them are all DEAD and smell like crap. What is the point of having containers of dead, stinking neglected insects? Terrible
