By far the best vet we’ve been to. We started coming here 5 years ago for our rabbits since they’re considered ‘exotic’ & our other vet for our cats wouldn’t see them. Dr. Orenstein was able to see us almost immediately. The entire staff was professional, compassionate, & truly dedicated to the well-being of my pet. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed & well-informed. The level of expertise & the kindness shown by the doctor & the techs made a significant difference during our visit.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Gambrills Veterinary Center. When I called on Sunday to schedule euthanasia for my cat, I was quoted $250. At my appointment on Tuesday, I was charged $466.13, nearly double the quoted price. If I knew this ahead of time I would not have gone to this clinic. In addition to this, I was left waiting in the waiting room for over an hour after my appointment, which was incredibly distressing given the nature of the appointment. When I called the next day to ask why the cost was so much higher and to try to find some sort of resolution, I was told it was because they had to use a gas chamber because my cat “would not allow them to put in an IV.” This is simply not true. My cat was calm and asleep, purring, weighed only 6 pounds, and was nearly 19 years old. They did not put hands on my cat or even attempt to do an IV before bringing the gas chamber in automatically, and they did not say that it cost extra. This experience felt deceptive and exploitative during an already emotional and vulnerable time. If prices can change so drastically, that should be clearly disclosed before services are performed. Compassion should include honesty and transparency, not surprise charges, long waits, and questionable explanations. I would not recommend this clinic.

Everyone was so nice and professional. From the phone call to schedule, arrival and checking out. The price for services was very reasonable. I’m fairly new to the area and my Pomeranian has been having ear infections. His regular vet is 45 mins away as we have not switched yet. He woke up in a lot of pain.… so I called GVS (as they are so much closer), they were able to see him within a couple of hours of calling. Everyone was great with my pup, who is not a fan of anyone or anything.

*Updated* based on the clinic's response- I want to clarify a few details from my perspective. My dog is a Presa Canario (not “Canare”) and was muzzled and manageable the entire time; he has never been labeled aggressive anywhere else. Sedation was suggested by the clinic at the outset, not demanded by me. The $500 charged was recorded as an overcharge (receipt available). The morning of surgery, after my dog was already sedated, I was told bloodwork would be taken. When I asked for confirmation that his procedure would happen that day, I did not receive a clear yes, so I chose to leave (I did not want to risk multiple sedations). Three technicians and I carried my sedated 110 lb dog to my car. The following day, when I called for the heartworm preventative prescription, I had already paid and tested for, I was informed the clinic terminated us. Potential clients can read both accounts and decide for themselves. **Original Post** TL;DR: Paid $499 as a “credit”—no refund offered. Asked to sign blank forms. Sedated at 10 AM; by 11 AM dog was waking up but unable to stand. No guarantee of surgery that day. Vet’s son accused me of “rushing them.” 4 staff carried him out. Charged $445. “Terminated” next day; heartworm Rx ($65 test) withheld until I pushed. No surgery. Proof available. Proceed with caution for large/reactive dogs. On 11/2/2025, during the consult for my dog’s gastropexy + neuter, the front desk overcharged me $499 and simply said it was a “credit” on my account—no offer to refund or correct it. I was instructed to arrive 11/11 between 9:00–9:30 AM to help sedate my 110 lb reactive dog for same-day surgery. Instead, they called at 8:40 AM asking where I was. I arrived at 8:50, was asked to sign an incomplete form, and waited in the car until 9:45. Sedation began at 10:00, but by 10:45 the vet said, “Can’t guarantee surgery today—two emergencies and a spay from someone who drove down from PA and is staying in a hotel.” By 11:05, my dog was waking up but still unable to stand. His head was moving from side to side and he was crying. I said we were done and wanted to leave. The vet’s son came in saying I was “rushing them” and kept cutting me off. They removed the catheter, four people total had to carry my dog to the car, and I was charged $445. Got home at 12:30 PM—he remained wobbly and distressed until 10 PM. The next day, the clinic informed me I was “terminated” and initially declined to provide a heartworm Rx (test run 11/2, charged $65, results ready) until I followed up—then emailed it as a “one-time courtesy.” Surgery never occurred. My mom witnessed everything. Receipts, emails, and video available. Summary: For owners of large or reactive dogs, this experience raised serious concerns about communication, scheduling reliability, and post-sedation care. Proceed with caution.

Do not go here for exotic care, specifically small animals. Dr. Orenstein roughly handled my tiny beloved mouse & she reacted with a bite. How did he react? By flinging her out of his hand and dropping her 3.5 feet to the ground. I had to handle her for the rest of the appointment, just for him to look in her ears and tell me they’re clear. I can understand an hour wait to be seen, I can understand a $130 balance(though that is ridiculously high for what “treatment” occurred), but what I’m not ok with is mishandling pets. I understand accidents happen, and this was an accident. But it could have been prevented. In no veterinary clinic should my girl have been flung onto the floor for nipping, because she was manhandled and scared. Especially at a place that claims they are qualified to treat exotics and smalls. She is so tiny and a fall from that height has me incredibly worried… I will be taking her care somewhere else.
