I had a really disappointing experience at Benfield Gaithersburg. The manager was extremely rude and only seemed interested in selling their plans. They knew I had a first-time free exam coupon but didn’t mention it at checkout. When I called right after leaving, they said it was okay and told me to come back the next day so they could fix it. But when I went back, they completely denied it and said their system couldn’t be changed. It felt very dishonest and unprofessional. If I could, I’d give them zero stars. Definitely not going back.

FRAUD ALERT. If you see it say anywhere, that the first visit is free…… it is a Lie. The first visit is how they sign you up for a $900+ plan, $170-200 on the spot with reoccurring payments you “can’t cancel” without being charged “for the services used”. But $500 is charged up in things you never asked for in the very first “free” visit. Nice people, but not so great/honest marketing or business practices. Update 4 weeks later: I reached out via email, as requested here. The response was: so sorry, call the store. I spoke with Banfield billing as well as the store manger. And she very rudely informed me, for the first time, when their vet insisted I select a “plan” to lower the up front cost of my 6lb dog’s necessary vaccines………apparently my agreement to a plan meant they would also add a bunch of unnecessary things to the bill too. This experience has been absolutely awful, the ultimate bait and switch. Now my dog still has vaccines he needs weeks later, that I have to pay for out of pocket somewhere else because even for all I’ve already paid those still aren’t covered AND I still have to pay this wicked corporate company an additional $300 just to cancel the plan. (If I don’t, the total would be nearly $1000 over the next year). And despite making it clear that they charged me for things I did not ask for, they refuse to alter the $500 charged up in one visit. Zero customer service, just, pushing me to keep the plan. To be clear, the care my dog actually needed could have been just $150-200 at a local vaccine clinic. Not $500+. Christmas, while healing from major surgery, might be light for my family this year thanks to this FRAUDULENT company! I am sharing so hopefully others can learn about their unacceptable practices, before it’s too late.

Despite nobody else in line and no obvious phone calls and/or other tasks being completed I waited for a very long time to be checked in. After being checked in and taken to the room, I was given a pamphlet about the wellness plans before I had even had a chance to discuss my concerns for our visit. After I agreed to a plan, my concerns still hadn’t been addressed so I brought them up for a second time and the nurse began taking notes finally. My dog was then taken back to the back by the nurse and brought back roughly 2-3 minutes later. When she returned, I was told they found a tick on her nose and that the vet would be in shortly. Seconds later, the vet cracked the door open and said, “Regarding her diarrhea, switch to bland diet and monitor for a few days.” Then he attempted to shut the door and leave before I asked about the itching, the newly found tick, a cough, and the fact she had been on a bland diet for 3 days without any improvement whatsoever. His response was “monitor” Then the door shut. The nurse came in a few minutes later and I asked if she had any help for me as I came in with questions and left with even more questions and zero answers. She told me to follow the vet’s advice and I was “free to go. “ I walked out to check out and nobody was there to check me out. Everyone had left for lunch so I was left standing there for quite awhile. I saw no improvement from my dog as the days went on so I scheduled a second office visit at a different location for Thursday June 12th. The check in process was much better this time-the wonderful lady checking me in paid attention to ky concerns, asked questions about the dog’s symptoms and even asked follow up questions. After her appointment on the 12th, she was diagnosed with allergies and was given a steroid shot, a prescription diet, medicated shampoo, and some probiotics to help with her diarrhea. All of these things should have been done at the first appointment. The fact that I was made to feel like I was delaying lunch time was beyond disappointing and uncomfortable. I arrived at 12:15 for my 12:30 appointment and if a 12:30 appointment is going to be rushed because everyone was to get to lunch, then don’t have that be an option to schedule. The doctor at the second locationwas very attentive, and allowed me to speak rather than being spoken over and having the door closed on me like at the original location. I had scheduled a spay surgery before leaving the original location because I didn’t know I could book at other locations with the wellness plan. When I booked the appointment they told me “surgery is July 8.” And when I asked what time they responded with “it’ll be on your app” and walked away. This left me very uneasy. I did not feel comfortable leaving my dog for surgery with this group. I ended up moving her surgery to the new location and will not go back to the other location no matter the circumstances- I would rather pay any amount of money than have them in charge of my dog’s health. I realize food allergies are not of huge concern, but I went in with concerns and 1. Never even saw the doctor other than him poking his head through the door for less than a minute. 2. Was left at the front counter for far too long because everyone had left for lunch when they knew I still needed to check out. 3 was not given any at home treatments, tips, or any guidance on what to do about the tick bite. I cannot fathom taking a dog with a more serious issue than a food allergy to this clinic.
