Called the store. Asked for help finding products that are listed in stock on the website. Man said he was sorry we don’t have e those but you can come in and look yourself. I asked if he could tell me the names of the shampoos, he declined and said he couldn’t because there were people on the store. I asked him if I bought the product online and they didn’t have it then they would give me a refund. Why would I order curbside risking that they don’t have what I ordered. I think this is pathetic and poor customer service. Maybe it’s the guy, maybe it’s the store brand that doesn’t empower customer service. He said there were 9 brands and wasn’t willing to tell me what they had so I could check against what I was seeing online. He seemed uncomfortable and I think instead of the back and forth he could have just told me the names of the brands. Lost a customer today.

I recently took my 8-year-old dog to Petco on York road for her first professional grooming appointment. I made an appointment for top-dollar services, including a full bath, haircut, mat removal behind her ears, deshedding, and anal gland expression. She was there for over three hours, and when I came back, nothing had been done — no bath, no haircut, no mat removal, no deshedding, and no anal glands expressed. I definitely did not pay, and I made it clear how upset I was. When I dropped her off, the groomer had me sign a paper stating my dog was “too old” to groom. I questioned it at the time because my dog is only eight — well below the 10+ years indicated on the form. The groomer claimed my dog was stressed because of her age when I picked her up, but if anything, the stress came from the groomer herself antagonizing my dog. I went inside earlier than expected because I had been waiting in the parking lot for over three hours when they called to tell me to pick up my dog and that they couldn’t perform the grooming. And boy did she look surprised when she saw me. She had no idea I was in the waiting room and could hear her and my dog. I know what my dogs bark sounds like. You would think that in all that time they could have accomplished at least something. But her excuse was my dogs age and that she had other dogs. The groomer didn’t even bathe my dog first, which is standard practice to loosen mats and make grooming safer. She also claimed my dog was growling when she attempted to remove the mats, even though my dog loves people and has never been aggressive. I’ve groomed her myself many times without issues, and any growling was just nervousness — something a professional should handle calmly. The groomer skipped a critical first step in grooming: bathing my dog before attempting to remove mats. Bathing is standard practice because it softens the hair and helps loosen mats, making them easier and safer to remove. By attempting to cut the mats on dry hair, the groomer caused unnecessary pain and stress, which likely contributed to my dog growling as well. This is not a reflection of my dog’s temperament — it’s a result of improper grooming technique. A professional groomer should know how to safely handle mats with proper preparation, and failing to do so is unsafe and unprofessional. When I went inside, I overheard the groomer barking at and antagonizing my dog, basically encouraging her to bark back. I was fully prepared to pay top dollar for proper care, but instead I wasted hours, and my dog left anxious and stressed. Petco needs to ensure their groomers handle dogs with patience, care, and professionalism. I will not be returning.

I got to lots of pet stores, but Onyx was by far the most helpful person that has ever waited on me in the past 25 years of having dogs
