Review for Vetco Hospital – Wareham, MA
I brought my dog to Vetco Hospital in Wareham today, and this was by far the worst veterinary experience I’ve had.
I regularly bring my dog to the Plymouth location and have been to Vetco clinics before, so I am very familiar with how an initial exam is typically conducted. During this visit, the doctor did not perform a proper exam. She checked only one ear, did not do a full physical assessment, and did not follow the standard exam process I am accustomed to when bringing my dog to Vetco or other clinics.
My dog was presenting with a large hematoma and a severe ear infection, yet there was no thorough evaluation, no bloodwork, no diagnostic testing — nothing to justify the conclusions being made. Despite this, the doctor immediately began talking without introducing herself, spoke over me, did not allow me to ask questions, and made a referral to an emergency hospital based almost entirely on “what ifs.”
The referral itself was quoted at $6,000–$8,000, and while the cost was not the shock — veterinary care is expensive — the issue was the lack of explanation, lack of examination, and lack of clinical justification. Being told to rush to a hospital without a proper assessment, especially when your dog is clearly suffering, is extremely unsettling and irresponsible.
To make matters worse, after paying, I was told they could not provide paperwork and that it would be emailed later, leaving me scrambling while trying to get my dog emergency care.
When you are dealing with a sick animal, you expect compassion, clear communication, and a clinician who actually examines your pet before escalating care. Instead, this visit was marked by insensitivity, poor communication, minimal effort, and a dismissive attitude.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend the Wareham location.
Take note: When I go to Plymouth location, I am not treated this way. They are very thorough and I can feel their concern, unlike the doctor in this location.
