I have to say, Dr. Toro is the reason I continue bringing my pet to Banfield. He is, without question, the best veterinarian I’ve ever had. His knowledge, professionalism, and genuine passion for animal care shine through in every visit.
What makes Dr. Toro stand out is his thoughtful, science-based approach to medicine. He takes the time to explain what’s going on, how the body works, what might not be working, and what steps we’re going to take together. His explanations are clear, educational, and never rushed.
Unlike many experiences where you feel pressured into unnecessary tests or treatments, Dr. Toro focuses on what truly matters for your pet’s health. His recommendations are practical, data-driven, and always in the best interest of his patients.
Dr. Toro embodies everything a great veterinarian should be: compassionate, patient, ethical, and scientifically minded. I would follow Dr. Toro anywhere, and I hope Banfield recognizes how valuable he is to both his patients and their humans. Phoebe and I are very grateful for the care!

There is a character limit for google reviews so in order to read the entire thing please see the photo attached to this review. In summary for those who cannot view the photo -
DO NOT SEND YOUR PETS TO THE NEWPORT BANFIELD LOCATION. Dr Toro & the manager Megan should not be given responsibility for any pets wellbeing. This location caused extreme trauma to me and my family. I am late to posting this (these events occurred in June/July) due to the extreme trauma caused by these people, but this post is necessary in order to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
We brought our dog in due to a limp and they completely neglected to do their jobs correctly. They did not do the correct type of x rays - they should have sedated my dog but kept him awake instead of sedating him, and primarily scanned the WRONG LEG! We were told our dog was fine and only had arthritis. They did not reached back out to us with any further radiology results.
Our dogs limp worsened within 10-14 days, so we took him to the Eastgate location. They did the PROPER exams and scans, and found that my dog had aggressive Osteosarcoma. We waited and waited for Toro/Megan at Newport to reach out to us and when they finally did we were given excuse after excuse. Dr Toro admitted to only GLANCING at the radiology report that came back, after he completely forgot about it in the first place because he was out of the office for a week without letting us know beforehand. Instead of taking accountability for doing a bad job they blamed my dog for "not cooperating". Then, they tried to offer us only a PARTIAL refund even though they did absolutely everything wrong, misdiagnosed him, and we deserved a 100% refund. We did receive the refund (for scans only - no refund for the meds they prescribed for him that did nothing to help), but only after having to scream at Megan over the phone and arguing with her about how horrible all of them did. Our dog died 2 weeks after diagnosis. If Newport cared about their patients and cared about doing a thorough job, we would have had an entire month to prepare for the loss of our boy. They showed performative remorse only after other veterinary professionals called them out, otherwise I'm sure they would have never reached out to us ever again.
If you take your pets to Banfield I implore you to choose another location (I have never had a bad experience with Dr Holbrook or Dr Kilberg at Eastgate), or to leave Banfield all together and go to Kyle Vet Hospital instead.

We don’t have much experience with vets and I don’t know how they compare. We adopted a 4ish year old mix 6 years ago and have been using Banfield from the start. We’ve had some annoyances, but everyone I ever worked with there was kind and I could tell they loved my dog and took care of her during drop offs. Currently the management is top notch and when we had to put our dog to rest recently they were only respectful and helpful and kind. I felt adequately taken care of. As far as plans go, we used ours and did feel like we saved money, but like I said I don’t know how regular vets compare. I think pets are expensive regardless so I feel like it all shook out. Big thanks to the office manager Megan and Dr. Toro at Newport for taking good care of my sweet old girl and us.

We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
