I went there to take my dog and it was horrible. The amount kept going up. It was around $350. One of the vets came in the room and told us to get the wellness plan and it will be cheaper . All she told us was it would be around 200 off . We would only pay for the visit today instead of everything . She explained u can cancel anytime without any problem and visits will be cheaper etc. we said okay and my dog passed away a couple months later . I called them and they said I have to pay the remaining balance now or monthly . The lady lied to us . They will lie to everyone in there . Don’t fall for it or get the plan. Theirs no way to cancel it unless u owe the rest of the money. Nobody has 100-400 dollars to pay out right for or even every month. We never even used it every month . Don’t go.

I brought my cat Xeno to Banfield Pet Hospital for an examination. Upon entering, I was told of a pet care plan and was told pricing. The technician told me that if I were to use the plan, the cost would be around $121 and if I did NOT use the plan, the visit would cost me around $170. I told them I would probably do the plan. After they took my pet back, I spoke with my partner and decided that I would not use the plan. To my knowledge, this meant I would only pay around $170 as this is what I was told after repeatedly asking. To my surprise, I was now expected to pay $470. After having been there for 2 hours, I was told I would need to wait until Monday to have someone reach out to me. As of now, I have not heard from anyone here. I was made to pay the balance so I could have my pet back as he was essentially kept in the back until I had swiped my card. Feeling very frustrated and I WOULD NOT recommend people trust their pets or money here.

Terrible service. They made us wait for two hours and “forgot” to call us. We waited in the lobby for two hours. The front desk worker was terribly rude.

I was lucky enough to receive the best possible gift for Christmas: a new puppy. One of the many tasks of being a new pet owner is finding the perfect veterinarian. Lucky for me, I chose to go with Banfield at Pet Smart in Lexington, KY. On my first visit the nurse told me I was in luck because my dog was going to be seeing one of the best veterinarian’s they had. I soon found out that she was not lying, we saw Dr. Sarah Hensley. Not only does Dr. Hensley have one of the best personalities, she is attentive to the pet’s needs, treats you as though you are her only patient, and most importantly no matter how busy her day is she doesn’t let it affect her time with you. Too often in today’s busy life the quality of customer service has been traded for the quantity of customers a company can get through the door. This trend often leads to poor service and needs going unrecognized. Last week my dog, Joey, started making an awful sound in the middle of the night. Being a new pet owner I thought he was choking on something, it continued into the next morning and I called Banfield to see if Dr. Hensley was working and luckily she was. Joey unfortunately got sick with Kennel Cough from being at doggy day care; Dr. Hensley did a great job educating me about the cough and what preventive measures I can do in the future. I highly recommend any new or existing pet owner in the Lexington area to strongly consider Banfield, if she had a human practice I would see her myself!
Frequently Asked Questions About Banfield Pet Hospital
Does Banfield provide emergency care services?
No, but you can call us during hospital hours for urgent care advice. Depending on the situation, we can help provide a referral for urgent care, specialty providers, or to an emergency hospital. During non-hospital hours, please contact your local emergency hospital.
Can I get veterinary care online?
To help pets and their people stay healthy, Banfield clients who have Optimum Wellness Plans® can get remote general pet care advice and triage support directly from a veterinarian 24/7 through Vet Chat™ on the Banfield app.
What preventive pet health care services does Banfield offer?
We believe that preventive care is the most effective way to keep your pet healthy throughout all stages of life. Our pet hospitals offer many preventive care treatments, including:
• Vaccinations
• Dental Care
• Parasite Control
• Nutritional Counseling
• Behavioral Counseling
• Comprehensive Examinations
What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
