I’ve had a very frustrating experience with Banfield Pet Hospital in Schererville. It is nearly impossible to get a hold of anyone by phone. Calls either go unanswered or you’re left waiting without any real resolution.
On multiple occasions, I was told that someone would call me back by the end of the day, but I never received a return call. This has happened more than once, which makes it difficult to rely on them for timely care or communication.
Scheduling is also a major issue. There are rarely any available appointments, even when trying to book in advance, which defeats the purpose when your pet needs attention.
Overall, the lack of communication and availability has been extremely disappointing. I expected much better responsiveness and support, especially when it comes to something as important as pet care.

We took our Dog here for years and the service got progressively worse over the years. Cancelling our appointments or constantly rescheduling them. They never answered the phone, we would leave voicemails and never receive call backs. I will never recommend to anyone nor ever bring a pet of mine to any Banfield establishment.

We have been extremely disappointed with Banfield. We have had the Wellness plan for over 6 years now and have felt let down at every turn. In the past, we have generally had a bad experience at any Banfield we visit.
About 1.5 years ago we moved to NWI. Soon after moving here our dog had his annual dental cleaning (included in our Wellness plan). It went uneventfully (or so we thought). Recently, we scheduled our dog’s annual dental cleaning for this year. Less than a week before the appointment we received a call from Banfield to tell us that the cleaning was not included in our Wellness Package. We were very confused as we had upgraded to the plan that included it many years ago and our dog had received several cleanings included in this package in the past.
After a few days of back and forth we were told after his last cleaning “it was recommended that he just receive cleaning every other year and our plan was downgraded to a different wellness plan at that time.” We were NEVER informed of this at the last cleaning and just as importantly the cost of the plan did not decrease but the cost has actually increased since his last cleaning. We were told to reach out to a corporate number as they can not handle any plan issues at the local level. This took us to a very unhelpful, hard to understand series of workers in another country and several hours on the phone getting passed to several different people. We asked to speak to a supervisor but were just given an email address. After sending an email we were again sent back to the local Schereville Banfield team.
After going through these channels the employee seemed to be sure she could to something to make this right but then told us later that there was nothing they could do. So we are now paying more than $73 a month but the plan includes much less services (none of which we have used in over a year). We were hoping to come up with a mutually acceptable solution, but their only option is to upgrade the plan +$15 a month (which we would be locked in for another year) or drop the plan altogether. This is extremely disheartening and we would like to caution others from receiving care for their animals here especially caution against getting entangled into the Wellness Plans.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
