I was NOT impressed by my first (and last) visit to the 86th St Banfield. My cat is a rescue and extremely anxious. I was shown into an exam room with her, then told she would be taken from me into a different exam room to see the vet. As this was our first visit, I requested that I be in the room. After a strangely hushed conversation between the assistant and the vet, Dr. Padgett, they agreed. I then asked if I could remove my cat from her carrier because I’m the only one she lets touch her. Scared rescue kitty, remember? Dr. Padgett said no, it was against policy for me to touch my own cat — and then she lifted my carrier up and shook it hard until my cat fell out onto the exam table. The assistant hesitated and acted like she didn’t want to put her hands on my girl at all, so my cat did what any feline would do: She jumped. I caught her mid-air and placed her back on the table. The vet requested I place her on the scale, apparently letting go of all “policies” of not touching my own pet. During the exam, the vet noted that the tip of one of my cat’s fangs had broken off. I asked what this meant. She said that, without further examination, it could lead to infection of the pulp bed. I asked if she could do that examination now; she said it was impossible without an x-ray. I asked if I scheduled an x-ray, could they fix the tooth in the same appointment; she said no, it would need to be two separate visits. Two separate times of being put under anesthesia. Two separate bills. After the exam was finished (they were somehow fine with me putting my cat into her carrier, against “policy” yet again), I was given the total bill, which sounded about $100 too high. I’d researched the cost of the vaccines we needed on the Banfield website and knew what my charges should be, and knew that the company promotes a “free first visit” for new customers. I was told by the assistant that free first visits don’t exist, then told that even if they did, I’d “still need to pay a $100 office fee.” Wellness Plans were pushed more than once, even after I politely but firmly refused. All in all, I did not appreciate how my cat was treated during her exam or how every step of the process felt like a money grab. The cherry on top was the fact that, after returning home and researching broken cat fangs, I learned that vets CAN examine teeth visually to at least give a best guess about damage to the pulp bed. I will not be coming back to this location, and likely not to any other Banfield. This was unacceptable treatment of my cat, and Dr. Padgett seemed annoyed that she even had to spend 10 whole minutes in the room performing her exam and administering vaccines.

I could not say good enough things about this location! My dog got hurt late last night, and they were able to get us in the next morning. We called 3 closer locations first, but they were able to book us within the hour! The staff is exceptional! From the receptionist, the assisting nurse, all the way to Dr. Hall - every single person was kind, helpful, and SO sweet to my very anxious pup. They took amazing care of my dog, while providing us with all the supportive information. If I lived closer, this would 100% be our primary location! Thank you for everything you do for the fur babies, you guys are great!

Do not bring your pets here. My huskies began having seizures after the medications prescribed by this hospital. They also reported my account to collections after it had been settled and paid off through a payment plan. I've been showing 10 months of delinquent payments on an account that was settled in June.
