- DJDerek JanssenDec 5, 20251.0I am extremely appalled at the treatment I received as a customer at the Lake Zurich Petco this evening. I had gone in to purchase Prescription dog food for my senior dog who is battling cancer and multiple autoimmune conditions. Obviously prescription food is a critical piece to her medical care. When I went to check out, Carey, the Ops Manager (what he called himself), pulled up my dog's prescription and met me immediately with hostility. My dog's Internist Vet had provided us with a prescription that stated unlimited refills as her conditions are chronic and will require prescription food for the remainder of her life. Carey aggressively scolded me in front of everyone at the check out telling me, "THIS PRESCRIPTION COULD NOT BE WRITTEN THIS WAY! IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN! THIS IS FRAUDULENT TO USE!". I was left speechless, feeling bullied and harassed. He then proceeded to write DO NOT USE all over the prescription. I tried to explain that I did not know this was an issue and that we have been using this prescription since 2024. He then proceeded to tell me still in an angry tone "IF YOU COME BACK IN TO USE THIS IT WOULD BE FRAUDULENT". This harassment and bullying behavior was absolutely unacceptable and unnecessary. It is a direct violation of Petco's Ethics Policy (which I have since researched). I do not begrudge him informing me that I needed a new prescription, however, this should have been handled from a constructive attitude to educate me on Petco's policies regarding food prescriptions. Instead I was made to feel attacked and stupid. I have lodged a formal complaint with Petco's Corporate Office and am hoping they will follow through on good customer service where Carey did not. I can only hope that Carey receives the training he clearly needs to better serve the public. In the meantime, I will not be a customer to this location until a proper resolution has been made!
