Every experience I’ve had with Banfield Pet Hospital has been awful. I truly don’t understand how people say this place “saves them money.” How? The wellness plan is the biggest trap. They advertise “included services,” but bury you in hidden fees the moment your pet actually needs care. For example, a teeth cleaning is “included.” What they don’t tell you is that you’re required to pay for pre-anesthesia bloodwork and for “optional” add-ons that no decent pet owner would refuse. One of them was an anti-nausea medication to keep my dog from vomiting under anesthesia—nearly $50 on its own. Of course I said yes. What loving owner wouldn’t? In total, I paid nearly $600 in extra fees for a service my plan supposedly covered, and I couldn’t decline most of it because they wouldn’t clean her teeth otherwise. The rest I couldn’t refuse for her safety/wellbeing. How is that ethical? My first visit was even worse. My dog was vomiting after eating berries outside. Banfield turned her away and said they “aren’t a hospital.” Then why call yourselves one? I went to a real per hospital and paid about $1,600 for X-rays and bloodwork, only to learn she was fine. Later, I was told Banfield actually could have done those exact tests but they just refused to help. The staff is wildly inconsistent: some are kind, but others are rude, dismissive, and act like speaking to you is a chore. Every visit leaves me stressed and frustrated before my pet even sees a vet. They also told me my dog had gum loss and needed teeth pulled, which would cost another $600. I got a second opinion at another veterinarian, and her teeth were completely fine. Banfield feels predatory, profit-driven, and dishonest. They turn medical care into a high-pressure sales situation and take advantage of pet owners who just want to do right by their animals. I truly despise this place and wouldn’t recommend it ANYONE.
