I wish I could give this practice 0 stars instead of 1. I phoned the practice because my mother cat had stopped producing enough milk for her three 5-day-old kittens. One kitten’s tail had died and was falling off, and another had not gained any weight for three days. I explained the situation over the phone and was told that this was an emergency and that the kittens needed to be seen immediately. After the receptionist spoke to the vet, I was then told that the vet would not see the mother cat or the kittens because she was pregnant and did not want to take the risk. Instead of being seen at my local Nuneaton practice, which is only a two-minute drive from my home, I was told to make a 50-minute journey to Solihull with a distressed mother cat and three vulnerable newborn kittens. By the time we arrived, my mother cat was panting heavily and drooling because she was so stressed by the journey, and the kittens were screaming throughout. It was heartbreaking to witness and, in my opinion, completely unnecessary and avoidable. When you’re told your pets have a genuine emergency, the last thing you expect is to be sent almost an hour away because your local practice cannot help. I appreciate that individual members of staff may have health and safety restrictions. However, I cannot understand how a veterinary practice offering emergency care can operate without appropriate cover when the only vet on duty is unable to examine emergency patients. If the only vet cannot see certain cases, there should be another vet available or a proper contingency plan in place. In my opinion, that is part of providing a safe and reliable emergency veterinary service. Unfortunately, this is not the first negative experience I’ve had with this practice. On a previous visit, I specifically booked my cat in for both microchipping and vaccinations. However, when I arrived, I was told that only the vaccination had been booked because the receptionist had failed to add the microchip appointment, despite me requesting both at the time of booking. Rather than acknowledging the booking error, the staff member carrying out the consultation spoke to me in a manner that I found rude and unprofessional. The situation became so unpleasant that she walked out of the consultation room, leaving me standing there alone for around 15 minutes. Eventually, other members of staff came in and apologised to me for the way I had been spoken to. However, they then told me that because we were already so far into the consultation, there was nothing they could do other than complete the vaccination. They said there was no chance of my cat being microchipped that day, meaning I would have to book and attend another appointment to have something done that I had asked to be booked in the first place. After these experiences, I have completely lost confidence in this practice. From poor communication and booking errors to the handling of what I was told was an emergency, I feel the standard of service has been unacceptable. I will never use this veterinary practice again and would not recommend it based on my experiences.

Partner took a stray cat that we'd been looking after to this vets. Told us he was healthy, apart from a slight eye infection. Couldn't contact the owners on the chip, partner said he'd take the cat home if nobody was going to collect him. They instantly became defensive and refused to hand the cat back to my partner, stating that he now needed treatment which wasn't initially mentioned? Then told my partner that if nobody collected him he would be put to sleep! My partner found this extremely upsetting and became distressed, to which the 'vet' (who was sat as a receptionist when he entered the building may I add), started shouting and accusing my partner of threatening her. They would not hand the cat back over despite him being malnourished and clearly neglected. I phoned up to reiterate that I'd pay for the cats treatment if the owners (who had now been contacted) did not wish to care for him anymore. The receptionist was more interested in talking about my partner than the cat for some reason? Refused to hand over my message to the owners, told me conflicting lies regarding the condition of the cat and insinuated that because my partner became upset and couldn't come back, this was why we wouldn't be contacted - despite telling him another story, that it was the 'law' that they couldn't hand the cat over to us. Understandable but to then not even provide ME with an update on an animal I'd cared for seemed very manipulative and unreasonable. I hope they've done the right thing and not put an animal down when somebody has offered to pay for his treatment but by the lies they were spinning on the phone I wouldn't be surprised if this was the outcome for the poor cat sadly. Avoid this place at all costs, especially if you've been looking after a stray, because they would rather put it to sleep than allow somebody to care for it. Vile.
