Usually find the staff friendly and helpful, but sadly on this visit I found them rude I felt like I had inconvenience them. Not a great visit when you are shopping instore.
I took my dog who had an accident on the floor of the store I responsibility and rather embarrassingly brought it to the attention of a member of 'Pets at Home' staff who returned with blue rolll and a plastic bag for me to clean up the urine, which was fine my dog I am a responsible dog owner and I was honest enough to inform staff of the slip hazard. After cleaning the floor I then kindly asked to dispose of the concealed plastic bag while I was at the till area, to be told "we don't have a bin'?? Staff are usually lovely and clear away any 'mess/spills/slip hazards' using a mop and bucket and suitable anti-contamination chemicals/ disinfectant. I bought my large bag of dog biscuits and took my (doggy bag!) dog waste away with me! Maybe I'll just order on-line from another provider next time save us all the inconvenience.

If you've ever wanted to spend twenty minutes enthusiastically saying hello to strangers' dogs while pretending you're actually there to buy pet food, Pets at Home Sunderland is the place to do it.
The store is always clean, well stocked and easy to navigate, with everything from treats and toys to enough varieties of pet food to make you question whether your cat is eating better than you are. The staff are genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and always happy to help, whether you're choosing the right food, looking for advice or just admiring the resident animals.
One of the nicest things about shopping here is that everyone seems to be in a good mood. It's difficult not to smile when you're surrounded by wagging tails, curious rabbits and children trying to persuade their parents that they absolutely need a hamster.
A great store with excellent customer service, plenty of choice and a team that clearly cares about both pets and the people who love them. I usually leave with everything I came for... plus at least three things my pet definitely didn't ask for but somehow now owns.

Given lots of wrong advice by staff, we purchased a tank and some fish following guidance from them. We were sold together a certain kind of pump with filter which we did and also told to buy tap safe.
We were told to go home and set up the tank following instructions on the bottle for the tap safe, we also set up the pump and left it for 72 hours before returning the store to collect the fish.
We got 6 fish in total, I questioned at the time about the filter and was reassured it was suitable. However, all of the fish have died due to the pump being too strong for the tank it was sold with, the pump has pulled the fish into the filter killing them.
We have since gone to a fish specific store and taken what we were sold with us, it was verified the pump was completely wrong for that size tank.
Won't be back.
