Always been good with my Doberman. Phoned other day when she was poorly and they got me in within 15 mins. Not many vets that would do that.

I was a loyal client of Oaklands for over 13 years and I genuinely wouldn’t have had a bad word to say about them. I’ve always believed in forming my own opinions based on my personal experiences rather than listening to what other people have to say.
Unfortunately, my experience after a the last visit to my yard completely changed my opinion.
The vet attended the yard and did what they needed to do. Before I made payment, the vet actually contacted the office to confirm the price. I was then given the price and paid the amount in full on the day, as I had been advised that routine services were expected to be paid for on the day rather than invoiced.
After the visit I received an unexpected £10 invoice. I found this strange, particularly as I had already paid a substantial amount for the visit and the price had been checked with the office before I made payment. As it was only £10, I unfortunately forgot about it.
A few weeks later, I received what I felt was an extremely unpleasant and unnecessarily snotty phone call from someone in the office regarding the £10. I explained that the price had been checked with the office before I paid and that I had paid the amount I had been told was due on the day.
I was then told that the price I had been given was apparently only a quote and that the final price could change. I was also told that because the £10 invoice had not been paid within the required timeframe, I would no longer be allowed to have anything invoiced and that all future treatment would have to be paid for on the day.
This was incredibly disappointing. If the price given to me was only an estimate, I feel that should have been made clear at the time, particularly when the vet had contacted the office specifically to confirm the price before I paid. I also would have expected to be told about any additional charge at the time, rather than receiving a further invoice later.
After more than 13 years of loyalty, I was genuinely shocked and disheartened by the way the situation was handled. It wasn’t the £10 itself, I had just paid a significant amount for the visit. It was the principle and, more importantly, the way I was spoken to over such a small amount after being a loyal client for so many years.
I have not used Oaklands since and, sadly, I no longer recommend them to other horse owners.
I’ve always preferred to make my own judgement about businesses based on my own experiences. Unfortunately, this experience has now given me a very different opinion of Oaklands.
After more than 13 years of loyalty, it was incredibly disappointing to feel that this was how a long-standing client was treated. Good riddance, money grabbers.

I’m always wary of veterinary’s. Ker-ching! Anyway, took our boy for his teeth to be checked over, and his inoculations brought up to date. Our vet was very very informative, and she explained all the way through what she was doing, and what she was looking for. Bit of a health check too, all proved to be good.👍 🐴🐎 phew 😮💨 Back in December and a Saliva test to come in October. 👍

I have only used the equine side of this practice, we travel from Tyne valley to them and they have been excellent for us. Until recenlty we have been totally spoilt having Graham Russ to assess and see our horses. He has always put his finger on the problems and sorted them after discussion with us. As he started his phased retirement we have used Louanne - again great people skills, diagnoses and discusses what she thinks is wrong and values our opinions too. Very caring and knowledgable support staff too who are extremely friendly. We are gutted to now find Louanne is leaving to further her education/research so will need to build up a relationship with another vet in the practice but have confidence we will get a great service without breaking the bank as unfortunately we have experienced in the Tyne valley large practices
