Honestly, I’m disappointed. I don’t usually like pet shops, as the animals can often appear unhappy and their enclosures lack the space and enrichment they need.
The hamsters and gerbils in particular need significantly more bedding to allow them to dig and behave naturally. The bedding was so shallow that it seemed more suitable for a guinea pig than a burrowing animal. The shop has plenty of space available, so it’s disappointing that more of it isn’t being used to improve the animals’ environments.
The fish also lacked enrichment, with very little in their tanks for them to swim around or explore. Sadly, I even saw three dead fish in one tank, which was particularly upsetting.
The only thing really bringing my experience up was the friendly staff. However, branches like this seriously need to consider the welfare and quality of life of the animals in their care. They deserve much better environments, enrichment and attention.

When waiting at checkout 2 days ago in the afternoon, fair skinned young woman who is not british rudely waved me over, did not say hello, and then ignored me when I said hello.
She did not say anything until the balance due came up on the card machine.
As I was leaving, I then heard her politely say hello to the next customer waiting who was a woman.
To note: I'm a mixed race male. Not sure what her problem was.
Other than that bad experience, everyone in the store has been very helpful and polite.
