Frequently Asked Questions About The Groom Room Walton Vale
I’m new to The Groom Room – what should I expect?
First off, a big thank you from us for coming to visit. Every dog that comes in to be groomed is treated like our own pet, so they’re in good hands with us.On your first visit we’ll get you and your dog registered on our system and ask a few questions to better understand what type of groom you’d like along with using our expertise to help guide you on any breed specific considerations. This will all be documented on what we call our ‘Grooming Contract’, which you’ll get a copy of too and we’ll ask you to sign it – that way we both know what is going to happen during the groom. We can also give you a tour of our salon and take you behind the scenes, just to reassure you that the great service and care doesn’t stop at front of house and that we take the care of your dog seriously throughout our salon and their groom. It’s also a chance for you to ask us questions, so never be afraid to ask. We understand how nervous that first time dropping them off can be and we’re here to put your mind at ease.
How do I book a groom for my dog at one of your salons?
There are plenty of ways you can book your dog in for a groom. The easiest is via our online booking facility at thegroomroom.co.uk; simply register and book. Alternatively we can take bookings via telephone by calling the salon directly, to find your local salon’s details please visit petsathome.com/groomroom and finally a booking a can be made in person in-store.
What training do your groomers go through?
We pride ourselves on our training and it forms the foundation of our salons, with each and every groomer going through a minimum of 1,000 hours of training before being qualified. But it doesn’t stop there, we provide continuous assessment so that training is maintained and those critical new skills learnt. Our colleagues are all trained in line with City and Guilds qualifications and have in depth knowledge of Canine Behaviour and Canine First Aid.Our training is supported and delivered by our highly experienced Grooming Development & Expertise Trainers, who not only train our groomers but are often involved in setting the standards in the wider grooming industry too.
What grooming services do you offer?
All of our grooming services and prices can be found on our ‘Grooming services’ page. https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/the-groom-room/grooming-services
Do you groom cats?
We’re only able to offer grooming services for dogs at this time.
What if my dog just needs a bath or fringe trim?
We offer a wide range of services that are suited to all breeds of dogs and their own individual grooming requirements. For some dogs a full groom won’t be necessary, so we offer plenty of services that sit in-between like our bath, brush and blow dry or face tidy and trim to get those essentials carried out. Visit our ‘Grooming services’ page for more details. https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/the-groom-room/grooming-services
How long will my dog’s groom take?
This can change based on your dog’s age, coat condition, size and temperament or the service they’re having done in the salon. As a rough guide, a long full groom on average can take up to 2hrs however a larger breed may take longer, a Full Groom Smooth Hair up to 90mins and for a Bath, Brush & Blow Dry it takes around 60 mins.
Do I need an appointment?
All of our grooming services require an appointment to be made in advance of the groom taking place. Occasionally we can offer walk-ins if an appointment spot opens up, but this is often at short notice. The only service we do not require an appointment for is nail clipping and this can be done on a walk-in basis, subject to one of our grooming team being available at the time to carry it out.
Can I stay with my dog whilst they’re being groomed?
We know how much you love your dog – we love them too – but when they can see you it means they often get a bit too excitable whilst on the grooming table to safely carry out the groom. We ask that you leave them in our care whilst we complete the groom and it’s a good opportunity to have a look around the store for that next toy or treat.
How often will my dog need to be groomed?
This is one of the areas our expert groomers will discuss with you on your first visit, as it can vary based on your dog’s age, breed, size, coat condition and even the lifestyle they live. What our teams will do is help you get into the grooming routine that is right for both them and you, to keep them looking and feeling their best.As a general rule, a long or curly coated breed would expect to be professionally groomed every 6 to 8 weeks, whereas a short or smooth coated dog may only need to visit every 8 to 12 weeks for a full groom.
Why do you charge a deposit for my dog’s groom?
Our deposits act as a guarantee of your slot, protecting both you and us that the appointment is booked and we’ll see you on the day to spoil them with another great groom. All of our deposits are refundable or can be carried over to your next appointment if you cancel or change within 24hrs of the appointment date, as we know that from time to time things can and do change. The current deposit value is £15 per dog.Remember, if you do need to cancel and have booked your appointment online, you can cancel directly in your online booking account.
How much will it cost to groom my dog?
This all depends on your dog’s breed, coat type or condition and their size or temperament – but we do try to offer guide prices at the point of booking. If you use our online booking service at thegroomroom.co.uk you can get sight of this before you book or visit our ‘Grooming services’ page for more details.https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/the-groom-room/grooming-servicesDon’t forget, you can also add any additional services you may want like our popular deShedding treatment when you drop your pet off in-salon, so it’s never too late to add those little extras.https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/the-groom-room/upgrades-extras
Do you use drying cabinets?
Nearly all of our salons use free standing dryers and your dog is dried by hand with one of our groomers. No dog is left unattended whilst being groomed in our salons, so you can rest assured that they’re safe and in the best possible care.A small number of salons may use a drying cabinet. Please inform your groomer if your dog has any conditions (medical or not) that may exclude them from using the cabinet. Any pet being placed in the cabinet is done so entirely at the owner’s risk.
What if I am running late to drop them off or pick them up for their appointment?
What we would always say is let us know as soon as possible if you’re running late and we’ll try to accommodate you as best as possible. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we cannot guarantee your appointment will remain available.Any dogs not collected at the agreed collection time will incur an additional charge of £5 per 30 minutes they are in holding after the collection time stated on the grooming contract.
What if my dog is pregnant or in season (heat), can she still be groomed?
Dogs which are pregnant or in season (heat) will not be accepted for a groom.
What if my dog is aggressive, can they still be groomed?
Our groomers pride themselves on being able to settle the dogs in their care and our teams go through extensive behaviour training to help them recognise stress signals and what to do to keep both the dog and themselves safe. All of our salons are also equipped with calming diffusers to help alleviate natural mild anxiety that a dog may have to being groomed. In the event that any dog is aggressive towards a member of our grooming team or another pet, then the dog may need to be muzzled. It is the owner’s responsibility to inform the groomer if they do not wish their pet to be muzzled. Refusal may result in the groom not taking place.
Is there anything else I need to do before they come in to be groomed?
There are a couple of things you can do before bringing them in to be groomed that will make the experience better for them and easier for our groomers. Please see below.> Please do not feed your pet within 30 minutes prior to their appointment.> Please ensure that your pet has been given the opportunity to be relieved before they enter the grooming salon. This will ensure that they get the maximum enjoyment out of their groom.
What if I need to make a complaint about the groom?
Firstly, we’d always like the opportunity for the salon team to put right any complaint that you may have about your groom. However, if you do need to contact us directly, our Customer Service team are on hand to help. They can be contacted via telephone on 0800 328 4204, email: cservice@petsathome.com or via our Live Chat service at petsathome.com.
